This document written by ACPE provides guidelines for the development and oversight of pharmacy education programs. The most recent revision of standards occurred in 2007, and are set to be reviewed in the 2013-2014 academic year. There are six categories of standards which provide the institution, student, faculty member, and staff guidelines for successful administration of a Doctor of Pharmacy program. The standard of mission, planning, and evaluation ensures that a school has mission and goals relevant to the vision of pharmacy practice to serve the needs of society. The standard of organization and administration includes recommendations for the internal and external functions of the school to be harmonious with their mission and goals. The standards for curriculum ensure that a thorough foundation of coursework is provided for a student to "contribute to the profession of pharmacy thoughout their career". The standards for students ensures that the school has adequate resources to support their education, where as standards for faculty and staff ensure the school has fair and equitable resources to attract and retain faculty. The standards for facilities and resources ensures an appropriate environment for a high quality education is offered.

Standards and Guidelines for ASHP Accreditation of PGY1 residency programs

Hot off the press- new PGY1 residency standards were approved this month to be effective July 2016

This portion of the ASHP website offers a wealth of information related to the standards and accreditation of all pharmacy residency programs. General information is offered as well as specific information related to the different PGY-1 programs (pharmacy practice, community pharmacy, and managed care) and the wide variety of PGY-2 residency programs. This site is the end all be all for anyone needing information related to the regulations within pharmacy residency programs.

This document serves as an official guide for the implementation and maintenance of all CPE programs. Those wishing to offer CPE programs for credit will need to seek accreditation, which this document provides a guide for as well.

The PGY1 and PGY2 residency standards require that "...the resident's program be designed, conducted, and evaluated using a systems-based approach. Such an approach requires that there be a direct correlation among the expectations of resident performance, the type of instruction provided, and the evaluation of resident performance."

This page gives example evaluation forms that have been standardized by ACPE. It also includes many other references, such as active learning strategies, learning assessment exercises, and sample checklists for CPE providers.
