Great if you want your students to do a project that allows them some freedom/creativity, yet it can be on a certain topic. You can make them yourself as a bell ringer as the kids come in the door. Possibilities are endless!
I'm a guy, so I've refused to actually join this website; however, it's a much more visually based social bookmarking site, which I really like. And I'm a big fan of the recipes my wife finds here.
Megan, you should also check out the link I've added...International Children's Digital Library. I bet those 1st graders would love hearing/seeing a book in other languages too!
I love using this websites for resources with my Promethean Board. It also works if you just have a Bright Link board. This site offers various flipcharts that are already created on a variety of topics and levels. Anyone that has made flipcharts knows it can take a LONG time, so this site can be a lifesaver!
Created by teachers, for teachers, Promethean Planet is a unique teaching, sharing and support community—your place to connect, create, and change the classroom !
You need a log in for this site, but it is a great resource to use in your classroom and for students to use as practice at home. You can create games or quizzes for students to practice or assess them on different content areas. You can also play/use other quizzes or games already created. Students LOVE this site!
I have seen students use this site and have seen positive attitudes about it as well. Anything that is interactive and getting the kids to study is great.

I'm a guy, so I don't dare join, but maybe I can for the sake of education. I think a lot of my students would use something like this in an educational way...then in a personal way...and even more for education!
I love using this site with my students. I have used it as a bellringer by having students try to figure out the theme of the wordle when they come into class, exit slip to review what students learned in a lesson, or have students create their own as part of an assignment/project!
Good idea!
We used it last year to describe what we learned about pumpkins.
We also used it to create a design for our school shirts!
ordle is a toy for generating
“word clouds” from text that you provide. The clouds
give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently
in the source text. You can tweak your clouds with different
fonts, layouts, and color schemes.
The images you create with Wordle are yours
to use however you like. You can print them out,
We've used this site along with Google Translate to create our shirts and cake design for our ELL Family Nights...they turned out GREAT! We heard so many good comments on the design.
A great site to look for new apps concerning education. Especially at the middle school level. They seem so hard to find! A site like this saves me hours of searching!
Educational Apps We continue to test out apps that are both fun and educationally useful for ELLs. There are several good ones. Flipboard allows you to customize and browse the web in a magazine layout that is easy to scan and fun to read. There are also many good word game applications. I like the traditional Boggle and Scrabble. There are also lots of flashcard apps, such as Index Card, that help students learn study skills. Apps like Stack the States and Star Walk help with content area studies.
Quizzes, tests, exercises and puzzles to help you learn English as a Second Language (ESL). These activities are also great for English/Language Arts classes.
I
have found many helpful resources on the web and decided that
I should share some of my work with other teachers. Please feel
free to use these materials with your students. If you find
any errors, please email
me.
