What Do Kids Say Is The Biggest Obstacle To Technology At School? - 1 views

  • 20% of kindergarten through second graders said they owned cellphones. 29% of third through fifth graders do. 51% of middle schoolers and 56% of high schoolers do.
  • iPads. Interactive Whiteboards. Netbooks. Video games. Although educational technologies are being implemented more and more in classrooms across the country, we don't often stop and ask students - or their parents - what they think their technology needs are. But the newly-released Speak Up 2010 survey has done just that

Great if you want your students to do a project that allows them some freedom/creativity, yet it can be on a certain topic. You can make them yourself as a bell ringer as the kids come in the door. Possibilities are endless!

How fun is this website? Similar to Diigo in that you are able to collect things or websites that interest you all online!

I'm a guy, so I don't dare join, but maybe I can for the sake of education. I think a lot of my students would use something like this in an educational way...then in a personal way...and even more for education!

Megan, you should also check out the link I've added...International Children's Digital Library. I bet those 1st graders would love hearing/seeing a book in other languages too!

Parents: How to raise a creative genius - CNN.com - 0 views

  • As a parent, you have to love learning yourself. You have to read to your children. You have to let them see you reading. Just stay on them. Stay positive. You have to encourage them. --Fatimah Memfis

I really like this site for blogging in the classroom - especially if the students are younger or new to blogging. Students can respond to a blog post/question you give to the class, the blogs are private to only your class, and you can preview all posts before they are published for others to see.

You need a log in for this site, but it is a great resource to use in your classroom and for students to use as practice at home. You can create games or quizzes for students to practice or assess them on different content areas. You can also play/use other quizzes or games already created. Students LOVE this site!

I have seen students use this site and have seen positive attitudes about it as well. Anything that is interactive and getting the kids to study is great.

A great game to practice root words or parts of words.  May work well with the Words Their Way spelling program for the Greek and Latin Roots portion.

I'm always looking for book suggestions for the kids. I like that there is a description of the book and often a link to the author's site.

How cool is this? I am almost finished reading the nonfiction book LEGO: a love story. Topic: ADULT fans of LEGO. Pretty darned interesting! Makes you look at LEGO as more than just a kids' toy.
