What Happens When Kids Craft Their Own BYOD Policy? | Cooperative Catalyst - 1 views

  •
"It started out with a standardized writing prompt and was never intended to move outside of the small testing window. However, when students finished writing a persuasive text on whether students should  be allowed to have cell phones and MP3 players (a student aptly pointed out that banning MP3 players would still allow him to have an iPod, because they don't use the MP3 format), they wanted to create their own BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) policies."

Learn, teach, and share online video lessons | Curious.com - 6 views

  •
This brand-spanking-new site aims to provide an uncommonly inviting place to teach and be taught. Instructors can upload video on any subject - be it salsa dancing or making glogg - then divvy it into lessons. Unlike YouTube, Curious lets teachers choose to charge for lessons, features an oversized playback window and generally feels friendly and constructive. There are no creepy comments from anonymous YouTubers here, and the site's proprietors currently approve teachers and eyeball content to ensure that these online classes are, well, classy.

I have managed to get the Windows powered assessment and reporting software Accelerus that our school uses running on my OSX laptop. Check out the screenshot below. Was a bit tricky but Google was my friend as I tried out a couple of different ideas. The best guide I found was perhaps this one. It does require a knowledge of partitions and terminal commands but it worked a treat fo me. Along the way, I learned heaps and enjoyed the tinkering. I might have some fun and try to get Ubuntu Linux running again on this computer.

Evernote is a tool for keeping track of, well, everything. At least everything as far as digital information goes, or information that can be digitized. Chromebook Review: Living with Chrome OS was Hell | Digital Trends - 0 views

  •
"But these days, Chrome looks a lot more appealing. An update made it look more like Windows or Mac OS X, and the cheapest Chomebooks cost as little as $200, making them potentially cheaper, and more useful, than a lot of 7-inch budget tablets. So I decided to take the plunge. My entire job is online and I've wanted to really try a Chromebook for a while. Last week, I finally did it."

Apple's education domination - 1 views

  •
"At this stage it's going to be incredibly hard for Android or even Microsoft/Windows tablets to break into the market. Apple are stated to have 94% of the educational market in the US and whilst the craze hasn't dominated Australian schools yet, the future is not far off. This means it is incredibly unlikely that Australia will reverse an already popular choice in America. Combined with a lack of development for other formats this means the iPad will soon be the tablet parents HAVE to buy."
