Picnik is a great and efficient photo editing website. The website's tools can fix nearly any problem a photo could possibly have. The website is user friendly as it offers detailed directions and guidance if needed. Many of the editing tools are simple 'one click' commands that allow any user to create the desired effect. Some of these editing tools are auto-fix, resizing, exposure, colors, and red-eye. After the basics of the photo are edited, users can click on the 'create' tab and add their own personal touches. Borders, shapes, text, and colors can be added to any part of the picture.
For the use of young children, Picniks strengths would be the easiness of editing. Children can simple press one button and have their picture edited. Another great example would be the ability for children to directly save the photo to their computer. Children can create photos and directly print them off of the computer for a class assignment or project. The weakness of the website would be the high amount of graphics and complex web design. Although the site is very well layed out, reading and searching for editing tools may be difficult for young children.
I believe this technology tool would be most efficient in elementary school settings. Children in grades kindergarten or younger may have difficulty using the website, it may be to complex. If used efficiently, this tool can give children a great opportunity for creativity and improvement of fine motor skills and computer skills. To ensure this positive interaction, teachers may need to limit and monitor the amount students allowed in the computer center.
Overall, I greatly enjoyed using Picnik. I feel the editing tools are incredibly and could be fun and creative when used with young children.
