CaringBridge is a useful website for those families that have been impacted by an illness. It is a way for the family and patient to get support from friends and family. This could be useful in both a hospital and an educational setting. If a child happens to become ill, the teacher could recommend this site to the family as a way to help the child stay in contact with their classmates. Also, as a Child Life Specialist, someone could recommend this site as a support tool for the child and the family. This website is free and easy to set up, with a simple three step process. Also the family and patient can personalize their journal. Because of the simplicity of the update process, the child could even use it to update and put their thoughts down. However the child would have to be able to have some mastery of their fine motor skills in order to be able to navigate the keyboard. In general this is a great support tool that can be used in various environments to help families during a difficult time.

My experience with CaringBridge is that it is extremely helpful, and can truly help parents/families when a child is ill, as the original poster suggested. I think it would be an excellent support, allowing friends of an ill child an efficient way to share information related to the child's health and condition with family and friends, but to receive information and messages of support in the guest book area in ways that are sensitive to the time demands of dealing with a significant illness.
