In yet another announcement about "sustainable apparel," Levi Strauss & Co. has said that it is funding $350,000 toward new approaches and innovations in the apparel supply chain.

Major established companies from AT&T to Walmart are finding financial gain in offering eco-friendly products. "Consumers are looking for companies to be more and more environmentally and socially conscious," said Roman Smith, AT&T's director of sustainability integration.

Deforestation due to palm oil production is the single biggest threat to orangutans, but new deforestation-free standards that cover about 60% of the industry could help secure the primate's future. Demand for RSPO-certified palm oil is growing due to many factors, including more food companies pledging to cut deforestation in their supply chains, SCS Global Services reports.
