Taking time to design programmes for understanding - The Learner's Way - 1 views

Identifying what our children need to learn is one of the most important processes within education. For the teacher this is the question they engage with as they design their teaching and learning units. By no means is this an easy task and the teacher must balance multiple factors to ensure that the programmes they design provide their students with the learning they require. Even the most effective sequence of lessons is of little value if what it sets out to teach has little importance in the lives our learners are likely to lead.

Is teaching an online course feasible if planning time is limited?
  • Good online course design begins with a clear understanding of specific learning outcomes and ways to engage students, while creating activities that allow students to take some control of their learning. It also requires a little extra effort upfront to minimize two of the most common frustrations of online learning: 1. confusing course organization (how course elements are structured within the course); and 2. unclear navigation (what links or buttons are used to access these elements).
