Google Custom Search - Nutrition - 0 views

  •
I have created a custom search engine for my third grade students to use while we are studying nutrition.  The students will use the search engine to help them gather more information about topics studied in class, as well as to find interactive applications that will allow them to practice the skills learned in class-such as reading nutrition labels and creating a balanced diet.  In doing a few searches of my own, with this search engine, I realize I may have to provide the students with a list of key words for them to use in their searches.  This will be a first time experience using a search engine in an academic setting for most of my students.
  •
Key words that 3rd grade students would most likely use when searching (to work on projects for meeting our standards) include: nutrition labels, exercise, food labels, healthy snacks, planning meals, balanced diet, calories, nutrients, healthy eating

Eva, Something like this would come in handy for me in my high school English classroom. I do a "food" unit with my AP kids. The links are helpful. Now though, I'm hungry! Brad

Google Custom Search - Online Learning for All - 7 views

  •
Is online learning in its current form appropriate for all students? Can online learning serve a wide range of learning styles? How can online learning be more responsive to the individual needs of students? Can students with learning disabilities participate in online courses? If the power of online learning is to be realized for all students, not just a select portion, then educators will need to find answers to these questions. The goal of this customized search engine is to provide a starting point for this discussion.

This job search was composed for immigrants to the Madison, WI area, to help them find employment despite language and experience barriers in the United States. The government has made provisions for low income people by providing programs and resources to help them find career training and jobs. A few of the resources are included in this custom search.

This site is exactly what I have been looking for! Many of my online students do not have PowerPoint, so I have not been able to effectively assign such projects. 280Slides.com should work perfectly!

Yes, being able to use presentation media this way should be very handy.

While the themes are limited, it gives you many of the same abilities as Microsoft's PowerPoint software application. It allows you to add videos, pictures, custom shapes and text boxes. Also, you can create notes and change the layouts of the presentation itself. It makes importing files simple and gives easy access to the presntation you create anywhere as long as you have a computer and internet connection. Along with all of this, you do not have to download any programs or applications to use, just log into the site and access your saved presentations. Though, PowerPoint definitely has more features, for its easy accessability and presentation creation tools, this is a great web application to use.

Maybe you're an avid hiker and the trail map site you always go to is in the 4th or 5th position and you want to move it to the top. Or perhaps it's not there at all and you'd like to add it. Or maybe you'd like to add some notes about what you found on that site and why you thought it was useful. Starting today you can do all this and tailor Google search results to best meet your needs.
