Blog Reflection: 9 Reflection Questions - 3 views

  • As for applying what i have learned in this unit outside the classroom, I can not think of anything.
    • Terry Elliott

How about using Diigo for research? How about not letting quotes speak for themselves? How about getting plenty of what "They say" before you talk about what "you say"? You know more than you think and it is now just a matter of practicing these skills
  • My lowest points of writing this paper was trying to find the information for the topic I have, books and online mostly talked more about characteristics, different types of whales, and where they travel too.
    • Terry Elliott

Filtering info is tough. Do you have new ways of doing that now? Do you skim websites better now? Do you make your keywords more specific now? How have you changed the way you search online?
  • It was hard getting certain topics about eating habits.
    • Terry Elliott

Sometimes you have to talk to people. Online as well as offline.

  • I do better when I am focused mainly on just one thing, because if i don't then i loose track on what I'm suppose to be doing. I found i love to listen to music when writing papers, I have no idea why but it helped a lot.
    • Terry Elliott

That discovery about music is worth it. Ask me about listening to white/pink noise.

  • I also learned about the different templates we could use in our papers as well.
    • Terry Elliott

Did klyou use any in your I-Search paper?
  • This relates to what I already know because I know you have to listen in class to know what you have to write about and you have to look at your book so you know if your doing it right and i know to use the internet in looking for information. And it does take a lot of work to write a good paper. You have to brainstrom and firgure out what information you want to use in your paper and that takes time to do that.

  • i will be writing a lot more

      Be more specific here.

  • take my time and really focus
    • Terry Elliott

Good advice. How do you do that specifically?
  • I feel like I have grow
    • Terry Elliott

Very good point--real learning feels like something. It may vary a bit from person to person, but we all know what it feels like.
  • I had to overcome while writing this paper was not going out to eat with my friends because I had to get my paper done and putting aside time for everything else.
    • Terry Elliott

Time management? Deferring fun? Both toughies as a freshman.
  • I have learned that I need to do my paper first and then worry about everything else. I have learned that it doesn't take me along time to write a page as along as I stick with it. The hardest thing for me is starting the paper. I have always had trouble with that. But after i start it and get it going everything just starts to fall together. The best place for me to write my paper was at mass media. Because it's really quite and everyone is really nice. I just like doing my papers and all my other work in mass media. It's hard writing a paper when you have all kind of other things going on like, having all kinds of other homework to do like math and reading and public speacking, hanging out with your boyfriend, making time for friends and also making time to eat and sleep. It takes a lot to write a page and saying focused on it. But once your focused everything should work out and you should get your paper done. Which that's what I did, I stayed foused and got it done!

  • you can be completely informational and topical, (just like most college papers will be) and put a personal, creative touch on it.
    • Terry Elliott

Ok, personal interest drives everything even the most dry, informational papers. There is always an "I" behind every writing who is writing about themselves and others (They say.I say)
  • t can help me put a more creative and entertaining spin on some things, and everyone knows it's easier to read if it's fun, or tells a story. Plus, it helps me with ways on how to add evidence and quotes, stats and interviews to the paper,
    • Terry Elliott

lMore creative More entertaining More fun because it is a story Evidence and support fit better
  • I'm not too sure on how to change the way I quote people via talking.
    • Terry Elliott

One of the best ways to listen is to "quote back" what your heard them say. That way they are flattered that you were really trying to hear them and give them the benefit of the doubt. And they will more readily do the same for you even if you disagree. That's how I would think about applying it to your life.

  • I would say that the low point for me was pretty much accepting that my pre-season pick really doesn't stand a chance in winning the trophy this year
    • Terry Elliott

True, but who thought Obama would get the Nobel Prize for Peace
  • internal battles that I encountered
    • Terry Elliott

Interesting way to put this. Let me show you a cool book by stephen pressfield called the war of art.
  • took notes after every episode of SportsCenter and I constantly documented stats from the internet.
    • Terry Elliott

Did your buddies think you were weird for taking notes on a TV program? I think it is pretty cool to access that kind of expert information.
  • Well first off and most importantly is... I can write a paper, that isn't considered "creative writing" and still enjoy it A LOT. I guess it just has to do with the topic of the paper, and the time span given to complete the given task. I didn't really feel rushed or anything to get this paper finished, I didn't find myself barely finding information to go on it at the last minute, and I didn't find myself pulling my hair out over the frustration that this paper was bringing me. I really did enjoy doing this writing assignment AND writing in this style.
    • Terry Elliott

I sometimes think that I give too much time to do an assignment. I am glad that you felt it was just right. I fear that we will be ramping up the rate of work here till Thanksgiving. Two papers in that time period. Sorry, but the pain will do you good. ;-)

HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa: Short I Search Reflection - 2 views

  • Actually, I don’t know it is a good example about question.
  • And it was different between research paper which I have known and I search paper.
    • Terry Elliott

It is a different way to write, but I hope it is one that captures you and your interests better so as to make your paper more interesting.
  • I searched many information of FTA which written in Korean and English.
    • Terry Elliott

At least you got to access both Korean and American points of view. What was the difference between the two? Are Americans being unfair?

  • When I write a story after a long time, I usually find myself surprised by how much my thought has changed during the time how different I feel about the content of the story.
    • Terry Elliott

This is actually a very profound thought. We learn as we write and tell the story. Isn't that how it is supposed to be in our learning? Always growing?
