Ok, personal interest drives everything even the most dry, informational papers. There is always an "I" behind every writing who is writing about themselves and others (They say.I say)
t can help me put a more creative and entertaining spin on some things, and everyone knows it's easier to read if it's fun, or tells a story. Plus, it helps me with ways on how to add evidence and quotes, stats and interviews to the paper,
One of the best ways to listen is to "quote back" what your heard them say. That way they are flattered that you were really trying to hear them and give them the benefit of the doubt. And they will more readily do the same for you even if you disagree. That's how I would think about applying it to your life.
Did your buddies think you were weird for taking notes on a TV program? I think it is pretty cool to access that kind of expert information.
Well first off and most importantly is... I can write a paper, that isn't considered "creative writing" and still enjoy it A LOT. I guess it just has to do with the topic of the paper, and the time span given to complete the given task. I didn't really feel rushed or anything to get this paper finished, I didn't find myself barely finding information to go on it at the last minute, and I didn't find myself pulling my hair out over the frustration that this paper was bringing me. I really did enjoy doing this writing assignment AND writing in this style.
I sometimes think that I give too much time to do an assignment. I am glad that you felt it was just right. I fear that we will be ramping up the rate of work here till Thanksgiving. Two papers in that time period. Sorry, but the pain will do you good. ;-)
