Sumdog allows students to learn at their own pace. This math educational website is made for grades 1-8. Teachers can set their classes up Sumdog and have their students log on to play different "games" that involve math problem solving. Teachers can also monitor their students' progress on Sumdog as well.

Keeping up with social media--in 30 minutes a day (you heard me!) | - 3 views

  • Curating your own content can be just as powerful as reviewing others that have done it for you. Especially when there are tools that can do the curating for you. Like Paper.li.

Curating your own content using a resource such as Paper.li is an excellent resource for teachers and students alike.  Paper.li enables you to focus on specific information using filters and share that information (online articles, images, podcast, videos etc.) among a variety of people.  Students can use this tool to collaborate on a research project, while teachers can share content to make instruction more engaging and relevant.

Love what Paper.li can do. But Mr. Hanson's article on keeping up with all the streams of information, social media, etc completely stressed me out. His concept of using every available moment, including in the bathroom, to keep up is craziness. Even Silicon Valley has awakened to the need to unplug and find moments without tech or trying to keep up.

This app for iPad is an interactive whiteboard and screencasting tool for teachers and students. You can create presentations, and can insert photos, draw pictures, include music and animate your work. You can create videos and sound to include in a presentation. This could be used to create lessons or be a portion of a particular lesson you are giving in the classroom.

This is a neat classroom poll app. You should check this out.

This would be a great thing to use for a quick survey of how students are doing with new material. I just wish my school had a better WIFI connection.
  •
I agree with @areinsburrow that this app would make for a great survey for seeing how students are getting along new material. Using the Marzano learning scales (4-1) is a quick way of gauging understanding, but it would be nice to have something tangible to document individual students' understanding of lessons that way teachers can track their progress. Sometimes in my classroom I feel as though I reach some students too late when teaching new material, and it's hard to catch them up during small group or one-on-one instruction. This is app is a good, anonymous (to others, not the teacher) way of assessing student understanding.
