A great relationship is about two things: First, appreciating the similarities, and second, respecting the differences.

I subscribe to the blog so I get frequent -- daily? -- updates on articles. The articles are short and to the point, so I frequently read them. And they often refer to studies that are appropriate for IA's. They supply links that are useful as well.

IAT - Implicit Association Test It is well known that people don't always 'speak their minds', and it is suspected that people don't always 'know their minds'. Understanding such divergences is important to scientific psychology. This web site presents a method that demonstrates the conscious-unconscious divergences much more convincingly than has been possible with previous methods. This new method is called the Implicit Association Test, or IAT for short. In addition, this site contains various related information. The value of this information may be greatest if you try at least one test first...

The Stroop test: how colourful is your language? | Science | The Guardian - 1 views

In the first in Mind Games, our new series on classic psychology experiments, we show you how to conduct the Stroop test, which looks at how language is processed. Mind Games looks promising, but I worry that it will make it harder for students to do their IA experiments.

Sport psychology - inside the mind of champion athletes: Martin Hagger at TEDxPerth - Y... - 1 views

  •
Martin Hagger is Professor of Psychology at Curtin University. His areas of expertise are social, health, sport and exercise psychology. He is involved in numerous research projects nationally and internationally with a focus on motivation and behaviour change. He is currently leading projects in drugs in sport, promoting physical activity and healthy diet, understanding the mechanisms of willpower and self-control, and reducing binge drinking and the prevalence of smoking. At the highest level, athletes are well-matched in terms of their physical abilities, conditioning, and skill level. But often that is not enough to win and perform on the biggest of stages like the Olympic games. Developing strategies and techniques to get athletes minds in the best possible condition for optimal performance is increasingly important for sports teams and coaches. Martin will provide an overview of the kinds of techniques that elite athletes use to prepare psychologically for their sport, give details of the scientific research into these techniques and how they work, and how the techniques might be used by competitive athetes and coaches to maximise performance.

    Great article on behavioral psychology

the article is really great but the question is not answered yet when the unconscious drives would be conscious ones in order to deal with them before they become irresistable

Mind Changers - BBC Radio 4 Extra - 1 views

  •
Again, not sure why this didn't work the first time! This website is a BBC Radio 4 programme called "Mind Changers", hosted by Claudia Hammond, delves into the development of psychology during the 20th century. Each episode is about a half hour of listening, and example titles are "Harlow's Monkeys" and "Abraham Maslow and the Hierarchy of Needs". I think this would be an interesting resource to expose students to historically significant studies in a whole-class or independent research format.

Why Does Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy Work? - 1 views

  •
Mindful meditation helps treat depression Clinical psychologists have developed an impressive array of empirically supported treatments over the past several decades. While these new treatments have brought relief to many people, a stubborn scientific problem persists. I refer to the fact that psychologists don't understand, and therefore can't explain, how or why any of these treatments work.

10 Mind-Blowing Experiments That Will Change The Way You Understand Yourself - 2 views

One more article about 10 "classic psychology experiments" and what we can learn from them . Many of these have been discussed in previous threads with regards to ethics. This is not a very "academic" article but some of the short discussions can serve as great introductions to further class talks.
