History Happens is a collection of music videos about characters from American history. Our goal is to inform and inspire young people that an individual can make a difference--as evidenced by the many acts of courage, endurance and passion that make up the American story. These music videos can be used as a platform for all kinds of innovative, multi-disciplinary, project-based teaching/learning experiences. Fabien Cousteau is an aquanaut, just like his grandfather and father. But more than just exploring the oceans to unlock its mystery, Fabien dove the extra mile by launching his Plant A Fish organization. It aims to educate the youth about the importance of protecting our waters and as its name suggests, inspire them to do their share of creating a sustainable habitat for fishing. To honor his late grandfather's 100th birthday, he directs Mission 31. He and his research team will stay under the Florida Keys for 31 days to thoroughly study the current state of our waters. When he got home, him going to the shelf and picking up a book was about as likely as his pulling out a notebook and solving quantum physics problems. Actually, the latter was more likely. He's a smart kid. So Sue and I took it on ourselves to fix the problem if we could. Starting that summer, and every summer since, we went out and found books that I was pretty sure he'd not just read, but would love to read. That was a big part of the inspiration for READKIDDOREAD."
