It is always recommended for individuals to take a basic CPR course even if their employer does not require it because it provides life saving skills for only a few hours of time. If you have an elderly grandparent or a child then CPR is always a good tool to know because it helps to save lives against cardiac arrest, chocking and drowning.

    BLS-Certifications1

If you plan to open up your own CPR class business, you have to obtain the following:

    1. Get a BLS certification

    2. Take the American Red Cross or American Heart Association pre-instructor exam.

    3. You must complete the two CPR instructor courses offered either by ARC or AHA. These courses are: a.) AHA’s Core Instructor Course, where planning, teaching, preparing, instructing methods, management assessment, and even cultural sensitivity are taught; b.) ARC’s Fundamental Instructor’s Training where they also teach you about Red Cross, and their missions and visions, history, and more.

    4. Complete the course. It would be ideal if you learn all lifesaving courses such as the BLS, heart saver, ACLS or the Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and the PALS or the Pediatric Advanced Life Support.

    5. Apply what you learned by teaching a class.

    6. Always refresh your certification every two years with refreshment trainings every six months. In order to do this, you have to teach at least four classes within two years and pass another CPR instructor exam to be recertified.
