After linking an AdSense and Analytics account, you’ll be able to see AdSense data including: total revenue, impressions, clicks, and click-through ratio revenue per day, per hour, etc. revenue per page (what pages are most profitable) revenue per referral (what other sites bring you profitable traffic) Here are a couple screenshots from Google’s videos on the new features (see below for link): During our call this morning, we asked why AdSense itself doesn’t also offer this data without requiring the need for also using Google Analytics to get it. We’re waiting for a reply from Google’s AdSense team and will let you know what we learn. Update: A Google spokesperson says, “We can’t comment on any future AdSense developments or features.” Motion Charts is a visualization tool lets you see and interact with analytics data in five dimensions, a capability made possible by Google’s purchase of Gapminder’s Trendalyzer software in March, 2007. The Google Analytics API, which is currently in private beta, will open up analytics data for developers to export and use however they want. Advanced segmentation allows users to dig deeper into subsets of traffic, such as “visits with conversions,” or create their own segment types. Custom reporting lets users create their own comparisons of metrics. Google has created a series of videos showing how some of these new tools work. Crosby says the new features will be rolled out in coming weeks to Google Analytics users, who may see some new features earlier than others. As it was a long read at 23 pages, I highlighted the more salient points, but mainly wanted to try and answer the hundreds of questions I received following its publication. The top question was about social media. It seems that many companies already have barriers to entry. Amy Labroo, associate director of online media at Advantage Business Media, asked specifically about any backlash due to unmonitored content in the social media space. I've come across this situation quite a lot recently. Many companies worry about negative commentary and therefore don't accept comments on their blogs or social network sites. In fact, many haven't started a blog or a dialogue space at a social networking site. This is simply hiding from your audience. If people have negative commentary about you and they can't make it known at your Web site or blog, they'll make it known somewhere else. I advocate putting yourself out there and listening to your audience. Marketing has changed from a broadcast-my-corporate-message medium to a listening medium. The voice of the customer is very, very loud online. And those companies that still believe they own their brand and the message may well be in for a bit of shock as brands are hijacked by customers. Let your customers have their say. Keyword-driven marketing is all about understanding the language of the customer and creating marketing messages in that language.   • URL shorteners do two things. First, they shorten URLs. Second, they create a unique URL to a destination, which can be tracked. That's the key element for marketers. In fact, one of the up-and-comers in this space, bit.ly, has built analytics directly into its interface. By using URL shorteners, you can begin capturing some excellent insight. For example you can see how many times a particular community forwards a message compared to another community. That is, since you can create two unique short URLs to the same page, put one on Twitter and embed the other in an e-mail. You can then analyze the clicks you get in standard A/B testing. You can also measure pass-along rates. Since the recipient of the original short URL will most likely pass along the short URL (not the original URL), you can see how far down the particular path you've created to a page goes. Not Just for Other People's Content and Twitter The cool thing about URL shorteners is that you can shorten anything. Sure, the traditional way to use these services is to shorten a link to someone else's content and send it via a medium that requires you to be terse. But there's no reason you can't use the same method on links to your own site. Or put it in an e-mail. Or on your own site. Fact is, URL shorteners provide an easy way to track traffic you're generating via social media channels. Like most things on social media, the cost of entry to use these tools is free. They're definitely worth a try.

Capital Letters (Pascal Casing) in URLs - Advantages and Disadvantages - 0 views

    I noticed CNN uses some capital letters and sometimes whole words in capital in their URL. Here is what I thought of the advantages and disadvantages and please feel free to share some more ideas. I was just getting ready to do a full blown topic on Pascal Casing and "visual" marketing advantages. I started a topic back in 2007 September here... Domain Names and Pascal Casing http://www.webmasterworld.com/domain_names/3457393.htm No, domain names are not case sensitive. These past 12 months I've been on a mission and changing everything to Pascal Casing when it comes to domain names. Its much easier to read and separate words and it just looks nicer. I've been experimenting with this and it works. Google AdWords is a great place to test the effectiveness of Pascal Casing. What's really cool is that you can literally change your hard coded references to Pascal Casing and when you hover over them, they show lower case. Its a browser feature I guess. I never gave it much thought until this past year when I started my changes. I've also gone one step further and use Pascal Casing in full addresses.   • When you must prioritize, here are a few techniques you can use to make sure you've truly covered the most important pages: Go into your Web analytics tool and identify the top pages receiving traffic. Site Explorer tends to list the most important pages first. Next, make sure that the search engines find your 301 redirects. How long should you leave it that way? That depends primarily on the size of your site and the number of pages that the search engines crawl on a daily basis.
