“What Can Studies of e-Learning Teach Us About e-Research?” “What Can Studies of e-Learning Teach Us About e-Research?” ist der Titel und die Frage mit dem sich ein Aufsatz von C L. Borgman, University of California, Los Angeles beschäftigt. “e-Research is intended to facilitate collaboration through distributed access to content, tools, and services. Lessons about collaboration are extracted from the findings of two large, long-term digital library research projects. Both the Alexandria Digital Earth Prototype Project (ADEPT) and the Center for Embedded Networked Sensing (CENS) project on data management leverage scientific research data for use in teaching. Two forms of collaboration were studied: (1) direct, in which faculty work together on research projects; and (2) indirect or serial, in which faculty use or contribute content to a common pool, such as teaching resources, concepts and relationships, or research data. Five aspects of collaboration in e-Research are discussed: (1) disciplinary factors, (2) incentives to adopt e-Learning and e-Research technologies, (3) user roles, (4) information sharing, and (5) technical requirements.

Labriz on Silhouette Island in the Seychelles was the best family resort holiday I've ever had. In terms of food, surroundings, activities, safety, beauty, it really was a very rare tick-all-the-boxes break. They sell it as a honeymoon resort, not as a family break, yet, ironically, it is the most perfect family place I've been to. It's the only resort on the island, so it's safe, the water's warm and the service is amazing. We did a bit of scuba diving, sailed, even visited giant tortoises. It's the most beautiful spot on earth. It even had a teppanyaki Japanese restaurant in the middle of a lake. Just incredible.

A Föld órája (Earth Hour) nevű kezdeményezést először 2007-ben tartották meg az ausztráliai Sydney-ben. 2007. március 31-én több mint kétmillió sydney-i lakos, cég és maga a város is kikapcsolta a nélkülözhető fényeket egyórás időtartamra. Az esemény a vártnál is nagyobb eredményt hozott: a Sydney energiaellátását szolgáltató EnergyAustralia cég 10,2%-os fogyasztáscsökkenést mért. A becslések szerint az akcióval mintegy 5%-al csökkent a légkört szennyező anyagok kibocsátása, bár a fő cél a figyelemfelkeltés volt. A Föld órája azóta nemzetközi eseménnyé vált: 2008-ban az akcióban Sydney mellett az összes nagyobb ausztrál város felsorakozott, de elsötétült például Bangkok, Szingapúr, Dubai és számos európai és amerikai nagyváros is. Becslések szerint világszerte 50 millióan kapcsolták le a villanyt egy órára.

Útvonalunk egy teljes év keresgélés, tervezgetés, Google Earth-nézegetés után az indulás előtti utolsó napokban lett véglegesen megtervezve. Eredetileg még Bosznia-Hercegovina és Montenegró is szerepelt volna, azonban előbb Boszniáról (Višegradot leszámítva), majd Montenegróról is lemondtunk. Megvolt tehát, hogy mit látogatunk meg és mit nem, a sorrendet már a helyszínen döntöttük el. 2008. július 25-én tehát összepakoltunk, következő nap indultunk is délnek.
