2009: Best Articles of the Year - 0 views

  • 2009: Best Articles of the Year « Challenge Yourself in 2010 with PhotoChallenge.org By Brian Auer • January 1st, 2010 I did it in 2007, in 2008, and I’m doing it again in 2009 — a roundup of the best Epic Edits articles of the year! We’re also approaching the 3 year birthday for the blog, and I’m super excited that this thing just keeps going. I’m also thankful that so many fellow photography enthusiasts keep coming back to join the conversation and participate in the projects. You guys are awesome, and I’m glad to know so many of you on a first name basis (seriously, I always smile when I see a regular leave a comment on an article). So how about a few stats to check our progress? In just 2009, we had about 1,500,000 pageviews, 925,000 visits, and 750,000 unique visitors. And in the lifespan of the blog, we’ve had 3,685,000 pageviews, 2,245,000 visitors, and 1,835,000 uniques. We’re also up to about 8,100 RSS subscribers, from 4,600 at the same time last year. Here are some noteworthy articles that were published in 2009. If you’re new here, check ‘em out!

Digital cameras expand our view of photography | New Jersey Business - - NJ.com - 1 views

  • As it happens, camera makers, driven by the competition, are bringing lots of features to their cameras. Here are 11 trends in digital cameras, as exemplified by 11 relatively new models (or soon-to-be-released ones). Retail prices are included, if available.High-definition videoA number of cameras, like the Canon PowerShot SX1 IS ($600), have been equipped with full-blown high-definition video capabilities — yet another reason to ditch your video camera. You can connect the SX1 IS directly to a high-definition monitor.“Intelligent” optionsAutomatic doesn’t just mean the camera adjusts settings for lighting. Camera makers keep trying to make automatic even smarter. With Nikon’s “scene auto selector” capabilities, available in the Coolpix S640 ($250) and other models, the camera analyzes a scene and makes adjustments depending on whether it’s a portrait, landscape or other type of shot.
  • Canon’s PowerShot SD980 IS ($330) includes touch-screen controls, making it possible to select a focus point, flip between images, and otherwise control the camera by touching a screen.

The rest were closely matched, but we liked the pictures coming from Samsung's SL820 most consistently. This was a surprise, as it's not the marque we'd have guessed would come out on top before we started testing The Samsung SL820 has the most solid feel here, and the most heft too.
