Civic Exchange is a platform for improving public services by showcasing and promoting the reuse of civic software. This includes online tools that support public service delivery, apps/services built on government APIs, or initiatives piloted with a local authority and created by others. The platform is run by Nesta in collaboration with our Code for Europe partners.

The Participation Toolkit, now in its third edition, has been compiled to support NHS staff to involve patients, carers and members of the public in their own care and in the design and delivery of local services. It offers a number of tried and tested tools along with some more recently developed approaches.

In a world where web services can make real-time data accessible to anyone, how can the government leverage this openness to improve its operations and increase citizen participation and awareness? Through a collection of essays and case studies, leading visionaries and practitioners both inside and outside of government share their ideas on how to achieve and direct this emerging world of online collaboration, transparency, and participation.

On 19 May the Open Policy Making (OPM) Team and Government Digital Service (GDS) co-hosted an event where we shared practical examples of how departments are embedding OPM and showcased some of the latest tools and techniques to help the open policy-maker. Below is a snapshot that we hope captures some of the energy and enthusiasm that was apparent on the day

Published on April 11, 2012 Edward Andersson discusses what digital technology means for engagement and what the strengths and weaknesses are of engaging online. A week ago I gave a talk at Government Digital Services on Digital and face to face engagement. This post is a summary of what I said.

"The OECD is currently developing an Observatory of Public Sector Innovation (OPSI) which collects and analyses examples and shared experiences of public sector innovation to provide practical advice to countries on how to make innovations work. "
