Digital Age PBL

Project-based learning continues to be misinterpreted as a single teaching strategy rather than as a set of design principles that allow us to introduce the philosophy of inquiry into education in an intelligent and grounded way.

Project idea for an 8th grade math class centered around games and probability

Short Description: During the course of this project, you will build a civilization based on the Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs pyramid.

Demands on our educational system are changing, and the graduating student profile indicates the need for students with well-developed critical thinking, higher-level thinking, collaborative abilities, learner-centered study emphasis and a budding real-world skillset. Project-Based Learning requires careful planning on the part of the instructor. Keep in mind unexpected circumstances such as unexpected delays or timing of certain aspects of the project. Making the projects standards-based can solidify the students' understanding of material for which they will be held accountable.

What is it? The first graders will investigate the age-old adage: You are what you eat. They will learn about how to promote a healthy lifestyle for themselves, their families, and the community. Students will begin by thinking about what it means to be healthy and think about things that they do to be healthy.

Our Mathematical Adventure Inspired by the Number Devil: Imagine Jason, a struggling math student in the midst of summer school, getting swooped away to learn about the coordinate plane from a Pablo Picasso painting. Or Mohammed, a young boy who finds a golden canteen which, when rubbed, brings forth the Number Genie who takes him on a mathematical adventure around the world.

A school in our district is a PBL-based school. This is their expected project cycle; it can be nice to see ideas that are actually implemented.
