Possibly a very good way to introduce the concept of project based learning.  Young children love to create/play with just a "box".

Project Idea: Students work collaborative (in groups of 4) to develop an interactive multimedia Escape to Freedom Game based on the exploits of one of the most famous conductors on the Underground Railroad, Harriet Ross Tubman. This PBL project reminds me of a simulation that my students love, The Underground Railroad: Journey to Freedom.

I'm always in search of math projects. I really liked this idea because it incorporates a lot of art and media which can be strengths for students. I like to find projects that allow different students to shine.

At TeachThought, we're huge fans of project-based learning. While there is no magic bullet of practice, program, or framework that automatically produces progressive and effective learning, what makes project-based learning exceptional is its flexibility. As it is, first and foremost, simply a curriculum planning tool, so much other "good stuff" that can support learning (game-based learning, learning simulations, place-based education, self-directed learning, etc.)
