In exploring Edutopia, I found an older youtube video of theirs about how tech alongside pbl is transforming tech and I couldn't help but think, if this felt so transformative 12 years ago, think about just how much more incredible we can make education with all the new technology we have now.
Florida Virtual Schools (FLVS) has recognized the effectiveness of Project-Based Learning (PBL), and has been working to incorporate this transformative teaching strategy in its online courses. PBL has become increasingly popular in education as more classrooms K-12 incorporate it with their course material, similarly online learning as also assumed an increasing role in K-12 content delivery.
My oldest 2 and soon 3 students attend a local magnet school that is part of the New Tech Network. I've been so grateful for PBL education for my students. It's not always perfect, but they've created some amazing projects and they've had a superior education to mine in terms of preparation for later life. When you put on a conference for mental health professions as a sophomore class, or create and entire interactive WWI exhibit for the community that made me cry, or try to convince real lawyers that you have enough evidence for a hearing to prosecute your ficitional suspect, you are doing some hard, fun learning!
