The key distinction to remember is that a psychiatric service animal is actually trained to perform certain tasks that are directly related to an individual's psychiatric disability. The dog's primary role is not to provide emotional support. It is to assist the owner with the accomplishment of vital tasks they otherwise would not be able to perform independently.

According to the Americans with Disabilities Act "An individual with a service animal may not be segregated from other customers." As a result protesters gathered around Uptown Buffet. Many of whom had service animals with them.

Tessa Urban is blind and needs her dog Dazzle to go places. When the Uber driver came to pick her up, he immediately back out and left. Urban was charged for a trip she did not take. Her "driver" was fired and she was later reimbursed. This is only one of many cases in which Uber has discriminated against service animals.

A Fordham University student's (name withheld) request to allow a service dog was denied. She suffers from Ankylosing Spondybarthrisis (AS). It caused her body to be "inflamed and painful." Denying her rights violates Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act. She was offered $5000 by the college but refused to accept it because she feels like the college is paying her to keep quiet.

James McCaffery and his service dog 'Kizzy' went along with James' mother and brother to top an oyster card at Dudu Miah's store in Limehouse, east London. He was told "Get out of my shop. No dogs in this shop." The mother, Katy McCaffery told Mr. Miah that it is against the law to deny 'Kizzy.' He stated that he did not care if he was breaking the law.

Lisa McCombs, an army veteran who sufferers from PTSD was not allowed to fly home from Kansas. She suffers with PTSD from fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.American regional carrier Envoy would not allow for her to fly with her labrador retriever Jake. Lisa McCombs had to seek medical treatment after the incident and lost time from work.
