More Than Half a Million Migrants Have Entered Europe This Year - 0 views

  •
In the past year, Germany has taken the majority of migrants fleeing to Europe and is estimated to be approximately 226,000 people. In June, the Balkan route had been closed off but the German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees still claimed that 20,000 people still made the journey. In addition, the agency reported that there could be 150,000 migrants that traveled over last year alone because they are still behind in their census.

I think this is a great topic. Since, we are all in college and know first hand the expenses of college. This article argues to push for free college. He talks about a college in Georgia where they have scholarships for free college. I think this is rather interesting!

This is an interesting thought however, I feel that too easily the system would get bogged down. Also, the money to pay for this free college would have to come from tax-payers. In reality I don't see how it would work. I know in Germany college is free IF a student has a certain score on a standardized test, so that the government sees the student as a worthwhile investment. It sounds harsh, but it works. I think in America too many things would cause that rule to be derailed. Also, Germany has as much smaller and homogeneous population, so that works better.

I am a person who is all for free education..in theory. Like Amanda, I do not believe it would be beneficial to provide the United States with free education because we as the tax papers would suffer. However, I do wish the government would make it so that we are not in such crippling debt once our education is over.

As much as I would love to see free education, it would not be free because it would come down to the average tax payer to pay for it. I do however wish to see lower interest rates.

I wish education could be 100% free. Everyone is always pushing us younger people to pursue a college degree without knowing that college isn't just a sign up and go kind of thing. You have to pay thousands of dollars either out of pocket or by federal funding.

This article compares what Americans spend on health care to other high-income nations such as Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Compared to these countries, Americans spend nearly twice as much on health care. The article goes over the causes of this such as obesity and expensive technology as well as affects such as higher rate of death from preventable causes and less doctor visits than average.

Angela Merkel's CDU party 'suffers state poll blow' - BBC News - 0 views

  •
Angela Merkel's approval rating is at a five-year low and it's primarily due to her immigration policy. Germany has taken in nearly 1.1 million refugees since the migrant crisis began and the AFD (Alternative fuer Deutscheland) has increasingly gotten a lot of support from those who are concerned about integration, and domestic security.
