Maps 101 appears to not be free but has a trial version. ti appears to be K-12. It includes materials for Spanish language educators and those teaching students with limited English. I couldn't find information on the purchase but I did see that you can request an extension on the trial version.

scribblemaps lets users create custome maps and share them. Users don't need a login to create a map. Students can add text and pictures to the information boxes, and they can see their project in map view, satellite view, hybrid view, and night sky. They can zoom in and out and find a particular area using the search box.

Terminix has launched an educational website with insect lessons. The website is built around the character Harry, a praying mantis who guides visitors through resources for teachers and students. The educator center provides teachers with curriculum guides and lesson plans, created by entomologists at Audubon Insectarium and Terminix, that correlate with National Science Teacher Association standards.

Shmoop, a publisher of digital educational resources, has added pre-algebra to its list of free learning guides. The online Pre-Algebra Learning guides contain hundreds of topics with succinct explanations, diagrams, interactive examples, practice problems, and real-world applications. Pre algebra is Shmoop's first foray beyond its core humanities offerings. At the home page click on the pre algebra tab

Collection of resources for teachers and especially students. Great number of study tools and skill builders. Especially great because it has resources on "The Outsiders" and "The Pigman" for 7th Grade Resources.

Encyclopedia of the Earth an electronic reference about the Earth, its natural environmetns, and their interaction with society. It is a free, fully searchable collection of articles written by scholars, professionals, educators, and experts who collaborate and review each other's work. The articles are written in non-technical language and are useful to students, educators, scholars, and professionals, as well as to the general public.

At a quick glance it looks like this site has lots of information about a variety of science related topics.

Thhis site provides you with information to get started on scratch a free program that will allow you to create interactive games and activities for students. It is also great for kids who like to create with technology.

If you have used scratch you will like this site. Lots of help and examples of how to use scratch. If you haven't used scratch this will be a very helpful site to get you started.

Teacher's first look like an interesting place for teachers to locate a variety of resources for teaching. As you will see by the home page a corporate partner with this site is ISTE which is the International Society for Technology in Education.

I have used and have seen this used. It is like a PowerPoint but web based. Presentations can be embedded.

With the advent of the World Wide Web and the huge amount of information that is contained there, students need to be able to critically evaluate a Web page for authenticity, applicability, authorship, bias, and usability. The ability to critically evaluate information is an important skill in this information age.

This site is really interesting. I clicked on educators and I was able to search a topic by keyword, grade, as well as state and standard. When the search came up It has numerous additional links to go out to. It really looked like the links had good materials for teachers and kids. The one that I chose had lessons that could be printed out for educators.

NationStates for Educators is a site that allows educators to create a nation to explore issues such as politicking, balaancing coompeting points of view, resolving ethical dilemmas, understanding politics, the nature of freedom, exploring the complexity of society, nature of patriotism. Different classes use NationStates in different ways. Some have designed their own "game within the game" systems, awarding points for students that achieve particular outcomes, such as being elected WA Delegate. Others use NationStates as a jumping-off point for discussion

Looks like a great site to create and use as an ongoing classroom activity. Please share with anyone you think may be interested in an authentic activity.

The purpose of this resource is to provide "Just in Time" training through an online interface for K-12 educators based on the National Eductional Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS-T). These standards are the basic technology skills every educator should prossess. In the process, educators will develop their own skills and discuver what studetns need in order to meet the NETS for Students.

This site is really nice. Many of the things we talked about in the grad class are covered here but the really nice thing about this site is that it take the NETS-T that we used and makes a connection to Marzano's 9 (Classroom Instruction that Works) and 21 things. It is really interesting. On the home page check out the two downloads of 21things and Marzano. On the right if you click on any of those categories, tools that can be used are presented. This is definitely one you will want to save in your own diigo library.
