Syrian government forces have pushed back IS militants and reached the edge of Palmyra. The city was previously held by IS, during which they destroyed two 2,000 year old temples.

Syrian forces, backed by Russian military, have captured the city of Palmyra from IS after three week offensive. This is seen as a big victory for Assad and is expected to increase support for the president. 

IS left behind hundreds of mines in the town of Palmyra. Experts are currently working on disarming them, and have disarmed 150 bombs so far in the city. The mines are keeping historians from reaching remote sites in the town to assess damage done by IS. 

Progress has been made in Syria with the recapture of the central city of Palmyra. ISIS seized the city in May of last year and has now left it in a wake of destruction.

Now that Palmyra has finally been "rescued", there are already talks of restoration. This is good news because of the damage done to the city by ISIS. I'm curious to see if this will bring Russia profit.

Finally Palmayra is no longer under the destruction that it was, or whatever's left of it. This article talks about how the city has changed under ISIS. Apparently, they handed out booklets to the residents advertising themselves.

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad has lambasted Western governments and praised Russia as "fundamental" to combating the Islamic State militant group (ISIS), in an interview with state news agency RIA Novosti. Assad spoke about the Syrian army's recent triumph in regaining control over the historic city of Palmyra, which was captured by ISIS in 2015.

With the retaking of Syria's ancient city of Palmyra, we seem to finally have made tangible, on-the-ground gains against ISIS - that is, if "we" refers to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Russia, Iran and Hezbollah. President Obama and several of his would-be successors are satisfied: The terrorists of ISIS are losing ground.

ISIS might have pulled off a string of terrorist attacks across Europe in recent months, but on its home turf in Iraq and Syria it has suffered one setback after another. On Monday, Syrian forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad recaptured the ancient Syrian city of Palmyra. This is another blow to ISIS's home field advantage as they are losing ground to the rebels and al-Assad's forces. The loss of the city is a big time blow to their plans.
