That is a huge surprise, as Qatar become something like a foreign sponsor for Morsi's presidency and floated a lot of loan offers to Egypt to ensure the success of his administration. (It didn't work, but that's another story.)

In accordance with the new anti-protest law, three of the leaders in Egypt's revolution were sentenced to three years in prison. The new law is aimed at Morsi's Islamist supporters after he was removed from office. More recently, officials have seen the law as protecting against the threat of the youth activists who led Mubarak's overthrow. The activists and other supporters call the law and the imprisonment revenge against their former actions. This sentencing followed new charges against Morsi implicating him in conspiracies to destabilize the country. From prison, one of the activists wrote a letter describing police stations as still torturous, suspicion against the Ministry of Interior, and the return of oppression of freedoms.

His face is on posters, shirts, cupcakes and now campaign banners and billboards across the country. The image of Egypt's next likely president, ex-army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, was iconized well before he declared his candidacy by propagandists, opportunists and supporters soon after he led the military ouster of President Mohammed Morsi last summer amid the nationalist fervor sweeping the country.

Any doubts that Libya has pivoted to a proxy war have been eliminated with the recent bombings outside UAE and Egyptian embassies as a backlash against their role in the regional "tug of war" on Thursday. In 2011, Egypt began its revolution strong and "brought forth a wave of optimism and hope." Despite the removal of President Mubarak, chaos ensued under the rule of Mohammed Morsi and, only one year later, the rule of Abdel Fattah el-Sis. Now, the revolution seems to have been a failure and life seems worse than before.

The Muslim Brotherhood initially started as a movement to spread Islamic morals and goods but later became involved in political matters. Under British rule and the Egyptian government, the movement has been in direct opposition of individuals in charge and many of their ideals. Through different political moves the group has obtained some power, which has made an impact on many Egypt elections.

The Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt is facing a difficult time, especially after the end of Morsi's presidency and now crackdown on the Brotherhood which has been called a terrorist organization. It used to be a group that was involved in spreading morals from the Quran, but now has turned into a political group as well. This does not go too well, especially in a time for the Middle East where democracy, secularism and Islamists are clashing heads.

After the deposition of President Mubarak, a democratic election was held, placing Mohamed Morsi in power. Shortly after, the Egyptian people demanded the new president's deposition. Now, under the rule of General Sisi, the government has responded to any protesters with violence.

Legend footballer Mohamed Aboutrika was on charges of funding the Muslim Brotherhood by a committee dedicated to investigating the assets of Brotherhood members. On 8 May 2015, Aboutrika's assets were frozen after the government committee announced the confiscation of properties belonging to tourism company Asshab Tours, in which the former Al-Ahly and national team player has shares. The soccer player was known to have supported Morsi and is now being suspected for more involvement.

Security forces used excessive force to disperse protests early in the year. Nearly 20 people, most of them Morsy supporters, died in clashes with police in the first three days of January. On January 25, the third anniversary of the 2011 uprising, at least 64 demonstrators died in clashes with police in protests throughout the country.
