The Turkish government recently went into an extremist-controlled territory in order to evacuate a tomb of a major historical figure, and the soldiers who guarded it. The safe passage of this mission has shown that the relations between Turkey and Syria have gotten a bit better. 

A New York Times article on the violence in Greece between Syrian refugees and the Macedonian border guards. The article talks about the Europeans not being able to come to a consensus on what to do with refugees. Additionally the page has a video of the protesters attempting to break through the barricade, which in response Macedonian authorities indiscriminately fired tear gas into a crowd including small children.

This recent update is a report on Vice President Joe Biden's visit with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Biden assures Israel U.S. will back Israel's security in response to Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps reports their "ballistic missiles are capable of reaching Israel." Israel was not in favor of U.S. negotiations re: Iran Nuclear Deal last year, and they seriously doubt more security assurance from our end.

Due to Libya's lack of institutional structure and weak centralized government, rival militia violence and clashes have created constant chaos leading the country towards another civil war. After the fall of Qaddafi, who obliterated institutions necessary for a functional government, Libya has been unable to manage the state. The National Transitional Council, which replaced the Qaddafi Regime, turned into the General National Congress and was given 18 months to form a democratic constitution. When the deadline passed the constitution was incomplete, which forced Congress to organize elections to a new House of Representatives. The former GNC members declared a new self proclaimed GNC, electing Omar al-Hasi as their prime minister. The new GNC is not recognized by Libya's parliament nor is it by the international community. Al Jazeera says the country literally has two parliaments and two governments, creating inconceivable instability throughout the state. The newly elected House has moved to Tobruk after armed islamic GNC militia groups overran the capital, seizing control over the major institutions in Tripoli. Due to this lack of a functional government, the rest of the state has turned to chaos. After the civil war, anti and pro Qaddafi forces branched into militias striving for power. Without a working state and government, militias had to rely on themselves to provide security, and really have no incentive to give up arms and no true government to be a part of. General Khalifa Hifter, a former Qaddafi general who later joined the Libyan rebel army in 2011, formed an anti-militia militia, targeting islamist militias like Ansar al-Sharia. Hifter is not affiliated with either of the governments, but rather strives for a military government, and supreme control of the armed forces.

The university plans to hire a security company to work in partnership with the university's guards to regulate the entrances and exits to the campus, ensuring that only students are allowed in, according to Al-Azhar officials, who added that security forces would be dispatched to campus rapidly in the case of any violence.

The attack took place near Mount Chaambi, a national park on the Algerian border. The attack comes as Tunisian forces on the Libyan border are on high alert in the wake of the murder of 21 Egyptian Christians in Libya by another radical Islamic group. They are aware of Egyptians fleeing Libya. Tunisians have been under attack by Islamic militants ever since the overthrow of their dictator in 2011.

There was a lot of controversy over the age of the new president of Tunisia. A lot of people thought that the potential new president could be way too young to be ready to be the president of their nation.

After the retrieval of the historical tomb, Turkish forces raised the Turkish flag in the village the tomb was transferred to. Syrian forces felt this as a bit of a threat and so relations between the two governments remain tense. 

The tomb of Suleyman Shah has been surrounded for months by militants belonging to the so-called "Islamic State", with just 40 guards holding onto the tiny pocket of Turkish sovereign land protected by international law. The operation represents the first land incursion by Turkish troops into Syria since the civil war began there nearly four years ago.

Another example of the refugee crisis in Libya. While it is in close proximity to the Italian island of Sicily, cramming people onto rafts and small boats is in incredibly dangerous task that seems to leave those migrants in far worse shape than when they left. However, these people are desperate to flee a region full of terror and horrific atrocities.
