The US and Russia have announced that a cease fire will take place on February 27 at midnight, excluding IS and other terrorist organizations. Because the first cease fire was a failure, there is a lot of skepticism surrounding this second effort. 

A BBC article talking about the US and Russia brokered truce that is supposed to start this weekend. The article also includes a fantastic map created by the BBC to show the zones of control and where various airstrikes have been taking place. While this doesn't have anything to do with the arms involved in Syrian conflict I think this is too significant to ignore this week and therefore I have dedicated my tags to it.

ISIS is not the only group that is causing conflict in Iraqi territory. There is a shiite armed group called Kataib Hezbollah that everyone knows is in control of Jarf al-Sakhr.

This article by the BBC news talks about the recent banning of social media in Turkey. The interesting thing that this article points out is that social media was banned when it was near an election. The fact that they control the flow of information to the citizens around election time is extremely significant, because not being able to communicate about the elections can greatly impact the results.

Iran's reformist have come together to ensure that hardliners, such as Ahmadinejad, do not regain control in parliament. The are willing to live with other factions in order to prevent this from taking place.

I fear that this article might hold some truth. Aleppo has been a fighting zone in the past couple of weeks, and with the regime retaking control, the fear has been that the city will fall under siege. This news release from today reported 12 wounded after rockets fired from Syria into Turkey's Kilis. It is highly suspected that the rocket launchers came from ISIL-controlled Bab region. There have been previous rocket projectiles form Bab on two separate incidents killing 8 people total, hitting a school and neighborhood.

A California pistachio producer has recalled some of its pistachios after the nuts were linked to a strain of Salmonella that made 11 people ill in nine U.S. states between December and February, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said. The producer, Wonderful Pistachios, said the recall is voluntary.

ISIS had entered the town of Kobani, near the Syrian and Turkish border. This came a day after Turkish lawmakers had stated that they gave the government full power to deal with ISIS.

Now it seems ISIS has taken control of Kobani.
