"A Googleaholic's Guide to all things gmail" - if you can't use Google Apps for Education and give students an email address, here is a creative use of gmail to do that so students can register and login to different applicaitons.

Have you given up Outlook and now miss sending Word docs as attachments? Here is some freeware that allows you to do that - AFFIXA. Here are some instructions and a link to the free download. When you send to email, it will put your Word doc in your Gmail "drafts" folder. 

Gives you the Outlook preview pane, but lets you toggle it on and off, which is nice. Click the "Gear" icon (top right of you Gmail window, then Labs, then enable "Preview Pane" - save changes.

Now you can send files up to 10GB from Google Drive in the new compose mode in Google Mail (Gmail). This is a huge plus for sharing large files with others without having to use Dropbox, Box.net, etc. that have file size limitations (Free versions).

For those that get email from school email clients or Hotmail, Yahoo, etc., it's nice to consolidate them into Gmail, which has great functionality.

Great tips to helping thin your Inbox. "While lots of newsletters and mailing lists fall into the "spam" category, sometimes you want to read them but don't want them cluttering up your inbox. Filter them out in Gmail by including these oft-used phrases." Also read the post comments for another great way to subscribe to things and not have them end up in your Inbox.

Some small changes that you should know :)

Snaplr is a simple way to capture and annotate your desktop's activity. Its Free to download. After taking your screenshot, you can highlight a specific screenshot area further with a set of drawing tools. Copy your screenshot to the clipboard and paste it to an email or save it as a png attachment instead.  Works great in Gmail and Outlook. I like using this in Windows as Google Chrome doesn't have the best screen capture extensions right now that can annotate as easily as this tool.
