  • II. Causes of Road Accidents In Cambodia, road accidents are caused by three main factors: a) Human Factors (Road Users) As RTAVIS data for 2006 demonstrates, an overwhelming 92% of road accident are caused by road users who violate the traffic law (speeding, driving carelessly, drunk driving) b) Road Defects Accidents have also been caused by road/bridge infrastructure, which has not achieved the appropriate safety standard (eg. potholes in the road) in many parts of the country. c) Lack of Vehicle Maintenance Poorly-maintained vehicles are causing road accident. Consequently, road accident occurred when brakes and steering fail, tires blowout, and headlights do not work
