Campagn Against Drunk Driving and Excessive Speed (CADDES)
Road traffic accidents cause complicated issues, which generate social issues that seriously and directly affect Cambodians and the process of development in Cambodia. The government has considered road traffic accidents as the second largest disaster after HIV/AIDS. On average, three people are killed, and many others are injured, every day. The majority (94%) of road traffic accidents are attributed to human factors. The two main human causes are excessive speed and driving under the influence of alcohol , which cause many accidents and casualties. Drunk driving and excessive speed accounted for 58% of the total number of road traffic accidents in 2005. Therefore, the Campaign against Drunk Driving and Excessive Speeds (CADDES), one of CRY special projects, has been designed to help reducing road traffic accidents caused by these preventable causes as well as to provide people with opportunities to find common solutions and to improve road traffic accident situations in their own communities. The CADDES Project will work with both sectors: the general public, to change their behavior; and the government, to enforce traffic law.
