I think it's unfortunate that you are selling a resource for free/open source educational software. The beauty of Moodle is it's comprehensive online resources in addition to its accesibility for relative novice to advanced users. Making money off the volunteer work of others is not ethical and I fear that continued practices will cause such readily available resources to go commercial.

I am not selling the software. I am helping K-12 teachers implement its use in the classroom. If you have done as much professional development as I have with K-12 teachers you will know that the resources available online are not adequate for your average classroom teacher. Believe me, the little bit I may make with my book will not encourage Moodle to be a commercial venture. Believe it or not there are other books written on Moodle. Do a search on Amazon.com and you'll find many more Moodle books.

This was a difficult newsletter to write this week because I am torn. This week there was one item in the news that created a "Wow, that is so cool." and an "Oh my gosh, that is so scary." moment for me. So, my questions for you this week are: 1. How do you feel about a computer winning against humans in an intellectual game like Jeopardy? 2. What do you think this technology will mean for teaching and learning during your lifetime?

So, what's a blog? Let's start at the very beginning by defining the word blog. Blog is short for weblog (a term which is not used frequently anymore) and is an online journal where entries (called posts) are written in chronological order with the most recent appearing at the top of the blog.

What is Netspeak? Netspeak helps you to improve your writing. When in doubt about how something is written, you can search for alternatives in Netspeak's phrase dictionary. The dictionary contains billions of phrases and how often they are used on the web. That way you can judge whether or not a phrase is common.

Curriki, the online education community, is building the first website to offer free, open-source instructional materials for K-12. We have thousands of free worksheets, lesson plans, exams, project ideas and activities for English language arts, math, science, social studies, technology integration and other subjects. All of our educational material is contributed by teachers and partners and is free and open source.

In ten years, modern education will have fully integrated new classroom media: video, online collaboration, and other web tools. We hope to pioneer a web tool that is a platform for this new media, bringing the power of the web to students, teachers, and parents in a secure, innovative environment. A new concept is starting to appear in encryption services for data and messaging: zero knowledge.
