Computer is New Jeopardy Champion - 4 views

  •
This was a difficult newsletter to write this week because I am torn. This week there was one item in the news that created a "Wow, that is so cool." and an "Oh my gosh, that is so scary." moment for me. So, my questions for you this week are: 1. How do you feel about a computer winning against humans in an intellectual game like Jeopardy? 2. What do you think this technology will mean for teaching and learning during your lifetime?

ED-451 Technology Tools Assessment: ED-451 Technology Tools Assessment - 0 views

  • This semester I have been tasked to assess eight technology tools that I have utilized in my audio and visual education class. The tools that I will assess are Moodle, Firefox, NiceNet, Del.icio.us, Google Suites, Ning, Yahoo 360, and Jing. The last tool that I will be assessing was not required for this class, but I chose to assess it because I only learned of and used this tool while completing a different assignment in this class. Below are my assessments of the eight tools with star ratings out of five.

The Kid Should See This. - 21 views

The Kid Should See This. There's just so much science, nature, music, arts, technology, storytelling and assorted good stuff out there that my kids (and maybe your kids) haven't seen. It's most likely not stuff that was made for them... But we don't underestimate kids around here.

I'll Take My Lecture to Go, Please :: Inside Higher Ed :: Higher Education's Source for... - 0 views

  •
It looks like students can be open-minded after all: When provided with the option to view lectures online, rather than just in person, a full 82 percent of undergraduates kindly offered that they'd be willing to entertain an alternative to showing up to class and paying attention in real time. A new study released today suggests not only a willingness but a "clear preference" among undergraduates for "lecture capture," the technology that records, streams and stores what happens in the classroom for concurrent or later viewing.

Off Course-On Target: Cool Tools: LiveScribe Pulse Digital Pen and Paper - 12 views

  •
"This week's Cool Tool, the new Pulse digital pen from LiveScribe, is still undergoing my evaluation since I've only had it about a month now, but it has already lived up to its predecessor, the now discontinued io2 digital pen from Logitech, which I nominated as a previous Cool Tool. I can see that this new Pulse pen has much more to offer, so I thought it worthy of bringing to your attention. "

crucial ideas - will be using MOOCs, flipped classrooms, BYOD very very soon. 2014 or earlier.
  •
Good day Steve In 2000 I created my on flipped an open enrollment evening college statistics class using a free online programed statistics textbook plus unique excel statistics software for homework. The top 20% (about 5 students) learned much more with less work and spent much less time in class/lab. The middle 60% had much less math anxiety, learned something but not enough to be useful. The bottom 20 finished with probably did something for their self-esteem.

Streamline It Part I: Diigo or Bust : Metanoia - 1 views

  • Here I was using Diigo, Delicious, Google Notebook, and Zotero for my researching, bookmarking, annotating, and sharing. While all strong tools in their own right, it is pretty clear looking at this list that this is what some would call OVER DOING IT!
