21 Things for the 21st Century Educator - Home - 17 views

  •
The purpose of this course is to provide "Just in Time" training through an online interface for K-12 educators based on the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS-T). These standards are the basic technology skills every educator should possess. In the process, educators will develop their own skills and discover what students need in order to meet the NETS for Students, as well as the new MMC Online Experience requirement. Participants who fulfill all of the requirements have the opportunity to earn SBCEU's. To learn more about the session, look under the tab "The 21 Things". We hope you take advantage of this unique opportunity.

TextbookRevolution - 13 views

  •
"Textbook Revolution is a student-run site dedicated to increasing the use of free educational materials by teachers and professors. We want to get these materials into classrooms. Our approach is to bring all of the free textbooks we can find together in one place, review them, and let the best rise to the top and find their way into the hands of students in classrooms around the world. At Textbook Revolution, you'll find links to textbooks and select educational resources of all kinds. Some of the books are PDF files, others are viewable online as e-books. Most books are aimed at undergraduates, but there are at least a few resources at every level, from kindergarten to post-doc. All of the books are offered for no-cost (gratis) by their respective copyright holders. Beyond that, each book is as individual as the author behind it."

Gotbrainy - 33 views

  •
Got Brainy is a vocabulary building site with a twist. Students and teachers can create or view mock-motivational-posters for vocabulary words that often pair ironic or sarcastic images with a word and definition. This site might be best used with an upper-level High School English class studying for standardized tests. However, it can be used for ESL students as well to pair images with new vocabulary words and simple definitions.

  • teachers are already talking about the possibility of not just face-to-face video conversation but the potential for integration of whiteboards, screen-sharing, Google Docs, and other collaborative tools

Empowering middle schools through technology - Ideablob: where ideas grow - 1 views

  •
In ten years, modern education will have fully integrated new classroom media: video, online collaboration, and other web tools. We hope to pioneer a web tool that is a platform for this new media, bringing the power of the web to students, teachers, and parents in a secure, innovative environment. Our idea is a response to problems in schools that we have identified through primary research and user involvement. The way students, parents and teachers interact and learn in middle schools has many opportunities for growth and improvement. Here is one example:Research shows that in the last ten years the way people obtain and digest information has changed, incorporating tools like the web.
