Real People Don't Have Time for Social Media - ReadWriteWeb - 0 views

  • Real People Don't Have Time for Social Media Written by Sarah Perez / April 16, 2008 2:00 PM / 52 Comments digg_url = 'http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/real_people_dont_have_time_for_social_media.php'; digg_bgcolor = '#ffffff'; digg_skin = 'compact'; Let's be honest here: we're all a bunch of social media addicts. We're junkies. Whether it's a new Twitter app, a new Facebook feature, or a new social anything service, we're all over it. But we may not be the norm. The truth is, being involved in social media takes time, something that most people don't have a lot of. So how can regular folk get involved with social media? And how much time does it really take?

Me.dium Secures $15M Series B - The Dawn of Collaborative Browsing? - 0 views

  • Me.dium's collaborative browsing vision When we wrote about Me.dium over four months ago, we described it as 'social browsing'. Perhaps a refinement of this would be collaborative browsing, and that would be a more precise definition of what the company is trying to do. At the heart of Me.dium is the idea that by enabling real-time discovery and communication during browsing, this will enable people to get things done faster and in ways not possible before. During my interview with the company founders, we discussed the typical scenarios for using Me.dium: You and your friend are trying to accomplish a common task; You are trying to do something on your own and meet others who are trying to do the same thing; You are observing the patterns of crowds nearby and so you are able to discover new things.
  • So the $15M dollar question is what is Me.dium planning to do next? In a nutshell, the company is planning to spend the money on refining and scaling its sophisticated matching technology. The secret sauce here is in connecting people based on their browsing patterns.

GravityZoo will possibly shake up the whole collab niche - if they get it tow work cross platform. Other weakness: .Net framework required (that killed it for me). THe approach however will be ppicked up and will change *everything*

I have been following the GravityZoo development since the Read/WriteWeb article. It can actually run cross-platform (any platform) and it doesn't needs .Net Framework. GravityZoo will not only change the collab niche, but the face of "computing" as we know it today! You can read more comments from a GravityZoo developer on the article here: http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/gravityzoo_review.php "At this moment we limited the client to Windows, but that's mainly because we have a limited budget and a limited team of developers. Of course, there is more than just Windows and there will be support for Linux, MacOS X and more platforms in the future (especially mobile platforms). On Windows we're currently depending on .NET (2.0), because this gives us easy access to all common Windows versions and a Microsoft-supported roadmap to the future. It is entirely possible to replace .NET with something else, like it is needed on most non-Windows platforms. Our backend isn't using Windows at all (it runs primarily on FreeBSD but also works on Linux and Windows)."
