National Archives/Digital Vault - 0 views

  •
Create a digital poster or movie using collected images and documents from the National Archives. All of the images are there for you to search, save a collection, read brief descriptions about each image, and use your collection to create a movie. Great if you teach social studies, have students read historical fiction or teach science history.

Rube Goldberg project: Motion and Physics of Change middle/high school - 1 views

  •
Driving question: How do we describe motion and change in our world scientifically? In the Rube Goldberg Project, students will build a Rube Goldberg Machine (by definition, "of, relating to, or being a contrivance that brings about by complicated means what apparently could have been accomplished simply....") and explain the phyics of motion in that machine. Some examples of rube goldberg devices in the past, in both movies and pop culture, are the device that Pee Wee Herman uses to make breakfast in the movie "Pee Wee's Big Adventure," or the game "Mousetrap." Students will be able to explain and demonstrate the physics of motion (specifically Newtons Three Laws, Velocity, Acceleration, Kinetic and Potential Energy, and Momentum) through running their machine and will be able to calculate the velocity, acceleration, and energy generated by their machines as they run to complete simple tasks. They will have a working knowledge of simple motion equations and how to calculate in real life situations. This project has activities, assessments and resources included Requires a considerable amount of time and materials, but very engaging and student centered

Free Technology for Teachers: Try WeVideo to Create and Edit Videos Online - 2 views

  • I discovered and tried WeVideo as an alternative to JayCut which was bought out and subsequently closed by RIM. At that time WeVideo was in a beta phase. Last week they opened to the world. Now anyone can create and edit videos online using WeVideo. WeVideo is a collaborative online video creation tool. In the video editor you can upload your own media clips or use stock media clips to produce your video. The video editor provides tools for trimming the length of display and or sound of each element you add to your video project. What makes WeVideo collaborative is that you can invite other people to create and edit with you. WeVideo offers four different user plans. The free plan allows you to upload your videos to YouTube and Vimeo but does not allow local downloads.

Make-a-Map for BrainPop - 1 views

  • Make-a-Map is BrainPOP's newest tool for concept mapping. Concept mapping gives students the chance to transform information into knowledge by making meaningful connections between their thoughts and ideas using BrainPOP images, keywords, and movie clips as resources to get them started.
  •
If you use BrainPop, Make-a-Map is a powerful tool with lots of possibilities. Have students create their own concept maps to present to classmates.

A lesson plan that incorporates all the Topic 8 geometric terms from enVisions Math using project based learning. The end product is a children's book with real life/world illustrations.

Nicely done! I appreciate how you're having them look for math in the real world. I'm wondering if you've seen Mrs. Yollis' blog post about polygons: http://yollisclassblog.blogspot.com/2011/02/polygon-movie.html I'm also wondering if we can connect with an architect or artist as an expert.
