Adventures in learning- Reading fluency - 0 views

  •
This website has a few different ideas for using an Ipod touch in literacy. If you scroll down to the section labeled "reading fluency" an activity in which the students records themselves reading, is described. What I like about this activity is that after recording the student uses a "How did I do" chart to analyze their reading. They then record again and assess their reading fluency to see if they have improved.

Using Ipod Podcasting to Learn English - 0 views

Another interesting use of the ipod would be to use it to help teach English to language learners. This site talks a bit about how it can be helpful for pronunciation, listening and speaking. Students can hear a native speaker and work on their own pronunciation, repeating what they hear on the ipod. They can also, pause, rewind, etc. which is more difficult to do and tiring for an actual physical person to do (repeating phrases over and over). This way kids don't have to feel guilty if they don't get something right away, and they don't have to feel like they are bothering their tutor by asking them to repeat.

Discusses other classrooms that have incorporated Ipods into the classroom. Results of fluency and comprehension improvement were seen within 6 weeks. Instead of Running Records, students were able to have fun recording themselves and learning from their mistakes by listening to themselves. If you have the tools before you get funding to show results, the results can speak for themselves when you go to ask for funding from the board or school district. This site also provides videos of the ipod being used in different capacities and in different classrooms in the United States.
