Policy Injection Application Block Validation and Logging Examples - 0 views

  •
David Hayden writes a couple of tutorials and gives some explanation of how the Policy Injection Application Block in Enterprise Library 3.0 really is Aspect Oriented Programming ... and there's a good screenshot there of the various "matching rules" ...

It's kind of a shame that Microsoft couldn't bring themselves to use AOP terminology to describe this: weaving instead of "injection" ... etc.  It would really have made it easier to follow for the new users and would have lent some validation to AOP research and development

Lab49 Blog » Out-WPFGrid PowerShell CmdLet - 0 views

  •
An Out-Grid cmdlet implemented in what may possibly be the most complicated fashion ever ;-) David Barnhill has created a WPF app which you can instantiate from PowerShell by sending output to it... but the cmdlet actually creates a separate application object (a new process) and then communicates with it (using WCF) to send it the grid data.

Some cool tech there, but it seems like he might as well have made Out-WPFGrid into a stand-alone app -- and it seems like that would have been easier?

Pragmatic Smalltalk (slides) | Feb 2009 | David Chisnall - 0 views

  •
Interesting clippings from the slides: "What can we do with it? * Write applications. Melodie uses lots of Smalltalk, first pure-Smalltalk app committed to svn in January. * Write scripts. Corner activation and gesture app uses Smalltalk for scripting. * Modify existing apps... " "We can inspect classes in a code browser, see method names, and write replacements in any running application. In a perfect Free Software system, any user can make any changes. "

My comment above might imply that Smalltalk is not modern. The truth is far from it, as Smalltalk is still pushing the boundaries of technology and user interfaces, from Croquet and Qwaq, to Alice, Sophie, Scratch and Etoys.

(I fixed Friday's broken link to the PDF.) From what I read so far, this seems to be another attempt at a fully introspecitve integrated and customisable personal computer with a graphical desktop. In other words, it is Dynabook Smalltalk and Lisp workstations all over again, but quite likely with some interesting modern twists.
