How to Debug - 0 views

One of the painful parts of teaching a lab-based embedded systems course is that over and over I have to watch a team with a relatively simple bug in their code, but who is trying to fix it by repeatedly making random changes. Generally they start with code that's pretty close to working and break it worse and worse. By the end of the lab they're frustrated, aren't any closer to finding the bug, and have made a complete mess of their code, forcing them to go back to the previous day or week's version.

book: Exercises in programming styles, by Chritina Videira Lopes - 10 views

  •
"In the 1940s, the French writer Raymond Queneau wrote a jewel of a book called Exercises in Style, featuring 99 renditions of the exact same story, each written in a different style. The story being fairly trivial and always the same, the book highlights form, rather than content; it illustrates how the decisions we make in telling a story affect the perception of that story. Inspired by Queneau, I decided to embark on the project of writing the exact same computational task in as many styles as I have come across over the years. Exercises in Programming Style (#EPSBook) features 33 renditions of a simple computational task -- counting the frequency of words in a given file. All renditions are written in Python. This book is a companion text for code that is publicly available in Github. Software developers with many years of experience may enjoy revisiting familiar programming styles in the broad context of this book and learning about styles that may not be part of their normal repertoire. This book can be used as a textbook for advanced programming courses in Computer Science and Software Engineering programs. Additional teaching materials, such as lecture slides and implementations of each style in other languages, are also available."

Convert Samsung NX1 H.265 Videos to H.264 MP4 . - YouTube - 0 views

#Samsung #NX1 and the newly released NX500 have the ability to support both 4K and UHD video recording. The built-in #H265/HEVC Codec, brings efficiency to the storage of video clips by compressing high quality video to half the size and the bit rate of #H264 footage without any compromise on quality. The only problem is, H.265/HEVC has not yet been accepted by most media devices, editing software and more. To make Samsung NX1 footage widely supported, we teach you how to convert SamsungNX1 H.265 to H.264 MP4 with ease.

How to Import and Edit MP4 Files with Windows Movie Maker? - YouTube - 0 views

  •
You want to #upload a #MP4 files into Windows Movie Maker for editing. But you'll be disappointed cause Windows Movie Maker won't import the MP4 file. Windows Media Player 11 recognizes and plays #MPEG-4 just fine but WMM doesn't. What's the matter? Well, this is a common problem encountered by many Windows Movie Maker users. This problem occurs because MP4 is incompatible with #WindowsMovieMaker. Fortunately, there is an easy way to fix the issue. The easy workaround is to change MP4 to Windows Movie Maker acceptable file format like WMV before importing. In this tutorial, we will teach you how to solve the problem.

Windows Movie Maker is a wise choice for creating and editing your video clips on Windows PC. But the limit is that Windows Movie Maker only exports video files to WMV, which is not supported well by portable devices, video sharing websites. To solve the issue, you'd better convert Windows Movie Maker files to MP4, which is more widely supported. In this tutorial, we will teach you how to solve the problem.

Remember Smalltalk? | Gartner Blogs 2008 - 1 views

  • 2) If you are BIG fan of dynamics languages (closures, meta programming, and all that cool stuff) then consider giving Smalltalk a look.  You might like what you see.  Its like Ruby but with bigger muscles.  You think Rails is cool? Check out seaside. In the end we’ll see a up tick in Smalltalk momentum over the next few years.
  • Please don’t talk about Smalltalk. I enjoy my competitive advantage over the Java/NET crowd
  • Where Smalltalk really shines recently is in field of web applications due to its dynamic nature (live upgrading, debugging etc.) and because its shortcoming are not relevant here.
  • ...9 more annotations...
  • On the Desktop - Dolphin creates 500k exe’s with ease - its a 1 button click (you just have to follow some of their easy put things in packages rules).
  • Remember LAN MAN? OS2? Both were heavily endorsed by Gartner.
  • I laugh when people say poor performance on older hardware was a mjor Smalltalk weakness. We routinely delivered applications that ran on 386 and 68020 processors with 8MB RAM. And yes, they were quite snappy. No, the reason Smalltalk didn’t catch on is because Sun spent more money on Java marketing than was spent on all computer languages combined, since the dawn of time.
  • I’ve listened personally to whiny ROR programmers groan and whine about PHP devs LEARNING ROR and undercutting them.
  • I didn’t fall for it for the marketing. I fell for WORA, for the language/runtime separation, for the multi-vendor approach (Sun never wanted to be the single provider for any Java centric product niche, and in fact was never the leader), for the comprehensive set of vendor-neutral APIs for all sorts of execution environments/applications,
  • For now I would like to see more use of Smalltalk like constructs in Java (Groovy).
  • Smalltalk must have sofisticated CASE tools, business process simulation tools, large development environments etc. etc. etc.
  • I stayed to teach Smalltalk since 1993 and am very happy about this information. Each academic year, we produce a small group of new Smalltalkers in the Czech Republic.
  • Joe Barnhart // Apr 4, 2009 at 2:48 pm At the company where I work, we have used Smalltalk for 19 years. Our tiny team of programmers has beat the pants off of competitors who employ teams 100 times our size.
