      I can't decide if this is a goot thing or not. It seems like it supports the Windows desktop BUT NOT 3rd party desktop apps -- is this just because they couldn't get around to rewriting all the utility apps in Metro style (and recompiling was easier), or because they actually want to support deskop apps?

      Read this as: WOA devices are not user-serviceable, you won't be able to sideload apps, and you deffinitely shouldn't expect to be able to build your own from parts.

    At the weekend I sent you an email giving information about a new simple system I've discovered that helps people like you and me make money online. WARNING! This is not a flashy presentation with fast cars and big houses - and you'll hear my kids shouting in the background but that's the point, you don't need to be professional to make money, you just need to have a system that works and follow it. For me, it's not about BIG money, it's about FREEDOM. Freedom to choose where and when I work and not be answerable to some boss who doesn't appreciate me. It's flexibility and being able to spend you time with those I love rather than working 40-50 hours a week in some office. As you can see I am not hiding behind a fake id or anything like that, I am totally genuine and down to earth sort of guy and want to help other people get the freedom that I enjoy.   • Interesting comment about IntelliSense encouraging a bottom-up approach. I think that is true if you start with programming and not with design. What I mean by that is that some people create their design in code rather than working out the full design before starting to code. I think that if you create a design using a top down approach it takes longer to get to the building blocks. that is frustrating to many, especially students, but in the long run results in a much better design. With a complete design in place one does know what the little blocks of code will be at least from the standpoint of names and interfaces. Creating those little blocks early on in the programming is fine as long as the design is complete

    Outsourcing is great, but it may not be appropriate for certain functions. The Rule of Thumb is, 'If something comes in the first few sentences of your pitch, You probably don't want to outsource it.' For instance, Google's pitch is that its search algorithm provides better results than everyone else's. It is their core offering and prime differentiating factor. Hence, they probably should not outsource the development of the "PageRank" search algorithm. Now, even google may decide to outsource some non-­‐core software such as the front-­‐end work for the android web page or sales support CRM for their Adwords team. In fact, they do. According to Google, a business should "Eliminate, automate or outsource any of the non-­‐value transactional work-­‐ it has really freed up ourselves, and it is a never-­‐ending exercise to constantly refine that."
