Zoho Plug-In for MS OfficeThe "Zoho Plug-in for Microsoft Office" bridges the gap between online and offline office productivity. Users task has been simplified much more with the fact that they have a choice to work offline on their documents and spreadsheets with Microsoft Word/Excel and still have these changes reflected directly online in their Zoho account (Writer/Sheet). The new plug-in enables users to :Create, edit and save their documents & spreadsheets directly to Zoho Writer/Sheet from within Microsoft Word/Excel. Alternatively, users can open and edit their Zoho documents & spreadsheets in Microsoft Word/Excel and save it back to their respective Zoho services (Writer/Sheet).Installation and UseUsers can download the Zoho plug-in here. As with all other windows application, the file name 'zohoplugin.exe' will be saved to your preferred location on your local machine. Installation is pretty simple, please remember to close all your MS Office applications before you install this plug-in. After the initial check is over, double click on the 'zohoplugin.exe' file to begin the installation process. A picture they say is worth a thousand words and with all them arranged in a slide show using Zoho Show is certainly worth a million.

ただ残念ながら、この“クラウド”も、現時点ではまだ実用的ではない。グリッド・コンピューティングやSaaS（Software as a Service）、アプリケーション・デリバリの管理、グローバル規模でのアクセスなど、ほとんどの技術がまだ幼年期にあるからだ。シン・クライアント型アプリケーションも、初期のWebがそうであったように、まだ先行き不透明な荒削りの欠陥製品にすぎない。 　ただ、そうした限界はあっても、Googleはサーバや特殊なインフラを導入することなく、データを簡単に共有できるホステッド・モデルの強みを生かして全力を尽くさなければならない。Microsoftはすでに（パスワードでプロテクトをかけたSharePointのワークスペースにすぎないとはいえ）Web経由でドキュメントを共有できる「Office Live Workspace」（画面1）のベータ版をリリースし、クラウド・コンピューティングのトレンドセッターのポジションを奪い取る姿勢を見せているからだ。（もちろん、Office Liveという名称にもかかわらず、Officeの全機能を提供しているわけではないので、今のところそれほど脅威ではない）。

おそらくGoogleの究極の競合は、ユーザーが長年慣れ親しむWindowsとOfficeを組み合わせた環境の快適さと、ホスティング型アプリケーションのアドバンテージを融合したハイブリッド・モデルになるだろう。それこそがまさにMicrosoftの目指す方向なのだが、皮肉なことに、Windows Vistaと「2007 Microsoft Office system（Office 2007）」の大幅なインタフェース刷新、ならびにOffice 2007の不安定性に対する不満が、IT部門のMicrosoft製品離れを引き起こしており、Googleに絶好のチャンスをもたらしている。

しかしGoogleは今、大きなプレッシャーに直面している。企業向けホスティング型アプリケーション・スイートの「Google Apps」をはじめ、オフライン対応のWebアプリケーション開発／実行環境「Google Gears」（画面2）への期待は大きいものの、実際のところ、どれをとっても不十分なものばかりであるからだ。唯一「Gmail」だけは例外と言えるが、全体的に見れば、現行のデスクトップ・アプリケーションと比較して遜色がないと言い切れるものはない。実際、まちがってF5キーを打ってしまっただけで、時間をかけた労作がいとも簡単に消えてしまうなど、ビジネスで本格的に利用できるレベルにはまだ達していない（こうした欠陥は改善されつつあるが、Google Appsの未成熟さがいかんともし難いのは事実だ）。

Cloud Computing Poses E-Discovery, Legal Risks April 10, 2009By Marty Foltyn ORLANDO, Fla. — Cloud computing was a hot topic at this week's Storage Networking World show, but one attorney sounded a warning note about the rush to the cloud. In a presentation titled "Computing (strike that — Litigation) in the Cloud," Steven Teppler, senior counsel at KamberEdelson in New York, said cloud computing and services are a corporate counsel's nightmare. The 2006 e-discovery amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) changed the legal and corporate information landscape, putting custody and control at top of mind. "Cloud computing means that data may always be in transit," said Teppler, "never anywhere, always somewhere." And that creates a big challenge for corporate counsel. How can they identify "who, when and where" in the cloud? How can organizations handle document retention? And to add another layer of worry, information targeted for the cloud may also be subject to laws requiring privacy and persistent data integrity, and other requirements that the storage manager may not even be aware of. Teppler spelled out the top cloud computing shortcomings: no native security attributes; inadequate or no security provisioning by providers; the lack of understanding of cloud legal issues (a real problem for not only cloud computing providers, but also corporate counsel and IT consultants); and the failure to recognize potential liability from either legal issues or a lack of security. Teppler told the audience that litigation in the cloud is already here. Users of cloud services will need to insist on service level agreement (SLA) terms with their providers to ensure legal and regulatory compliance, searchability, demonstrable customer care (security), provably persistent data integrity and reliability, and demonstrable storage security and integrity for electronically stored information in the cloud.
