always learning - 0 views

  • For me, conferences are no longer primarily about learning, at least not in the traditional sense of attending lectures, doing activities and taking notes.
  • What I realized is that I often get better information through my RSS reader and Twitter than I do via more traditional, formalized educational experiences like a conference. While I learned something new from every session I attended, there were a few sessions where I was glad to be able to sit within range of the wifi and go through my reader, finding exactly what I needed at that moment. This wasn’t because the presentations were lacking, it’s just that I’m starting to realize that there’s a limit to what I can gain from a pre-constructed session, devised for a broad audience, about something that might only be indirectly related to my learning needs.

Langwitches » Digital StoryTelling- What Comes to Mind? - 0 views

  • As many of you know, who follow me on Langwitches, I am working on a Digital Storytelling Guide for Educators. I will be using Wordle to create a storytelling cloud with words that come to mind when you think what Digital Storytelling means to or for you. Please contribute keywords, that come to YOUR mind when you think of storytelling in a comment. Don’t hesitate to add duplicate keywords what digital storytelling means to you. That way Wordle will highlight more important keywords. I will add your reponses through the comments and through Twitter and Plurk to Wordle and add the collaborative cloud to this post and as part of the cover art of the hardcover book that will be available for free download on Lulu.com . This cloud will be a digital story in itself, told by all of us!

I seem to remember trying out this site some time ago. As a resource for making music it was awesome but I think that you have to upgrade to a fee based account if you want to save and/or download your music creations. I hope someone will comment on this?

CMU class teaches education students using iPod technology | Central Michigan Life - 2 views

  • “For them, this is like having a pencil,” said Jan Huffman, an instructor for Teacher Education and Professor Development, who co-teaches the class.
  • The integration is part of a package from turningtechnologies.com. It began offering the iPhone/iPod service this year.
  • Roberts said the miniature computers are used outside the class as well, where students download podcasts of scheduled speakers and instructional videos from iTunes U.
  • ...2 more annotations...
  • Between 35 and 40 percent of the students of EDU 107 had an iPod touch or iPhone when the class began, Roberts said.
  • The registration process to sync the devices with the class consists of at least four steps. And while many students, including Brinson, already owned the needed technology, those who attended the two sections where the Apple devices are mandatory needed to either buy them or rent them from the Central Michigan University Bookstore for $30.
