Brockton achieved national recognition as one of America's Promise Alliance's 100 Best Communities for Young People presented by ING for its initiatives to help young people. The competition recognizes communities across the country that focus on reducing high school dropout rates and providing service and support to their youth. What I find funny about this site is that many people don't know about the resources Brockton has, so its word of mouth. I'm finding it hard to find structured programs for the youth to stay off the streets, but its the best communities for young people.

The UMB school is hosting this in Boston Common and looks to be very interesting with speakers on youth and community. In celebration of its 50th anniversary, UMass Boston will briefly return to its downtown roots and take over the Boston Common on October 7. Chancellor J. Keith Motley will kick off the Campus on the Common morning program by leading a procession from the State House to the Boston Common for a Celebration50 ceremony that will include a special music program and remarks by key dignitaries, including Dr. Victoria Reggie Kennedy. The afternoon's events, which include tent talks, an academic showcase, and musical entertainment, are free and open to the public.

As I work on my engagement project I realize I cannot change people or the choices that they make. I can only encourage and try to educate people in their decision making. As I develop more ideas on the benefit that I am working on making, I realize I may not change certain outcomes but I can help crate better outcomes for their little ones left behind. Rashaun, are you going to walk? The expirence is amazing!!!! A few years ago, I was on the Board of Directors for the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute and Tina Chery and I have a relationship that spans many years. I was honored to be asked by her to serve on the board for around 2 years. I try and support the walk and her efforts every year. Last year my mother was very sick (dying) and it was a litttle too much for me to walk, but this year, I'll be there.

Ed, I have walked a few times in the past. Great agency and I'm not surprised that you've been able to do some work with them...I'm not sure if my family will walk this year as its my wife's first year as a mother and she may opt to do something different. I'm still gonna push her though>>>
