Grade level: Upper elementary, middle school, high school Topic/discipline: All Tutorial information: A "take a tour" link is provided on the homepage that walks you through the five main aspects of digg and then asks you to join. An FAQ link is also provided at the homepage. Possible uses: Teachers and studetents can find web-based information and have an online discussion about the information/content. Students may also communicate with other students from other schools. Basics: Individuals post information or links to information on the web. Other users are able to comment on the information and rate the value of the information through comments. Positives: Very visual, easy to post information, ability to communicate with other students and teacher, exposure to vast amount of information. Negatives: Some information shared at digg.com will be blocked by schools' filters. Students may be distracted by other less relevant posted information.

There is also a support tab at the bottom with a tutorial/FAQs -Possible Uses: For classes to build a favorites that they can have access to from the web. -Positives: Keep, share, and discover the best of the web for sharing with the entire class. -Negatives: I really couldn't come up with a negative for this one because you can use it anywhere there is web access.

Possible uses: Creating timelines that are available to all members of a group Basics: Users are able to create and edit interactive timelines that can be manipulated with a simple drag of the mouse. Positives: Templates, easy to use drop boxes to enter data, can export timelines to a PDF file, can insert images, teacher support services, customizable privacy. Negatives: There is a one-time joiner fee of $19. Could be difficult for younger users due to required reading.

Possible uses: brainstorming for writing, concept maps in science/social studies, group collaboration Basic explanation: Online brainstorming tool that lets you create colorful webs or mind maps. You can share, print, email or save your work. Positives: Easy to use, can create colorful webs that would be good to display to a class Negatives: Younger students would not be able to use it on their own but could contribute as a group.

Teachers can use these workspaces to fit into their curriculum. Students may have the opportunity to collaborate online with their peers instead of in the classroom. Positives: Provide students more opportunities to interact online with peers and their teachers when completing assignments. Librarians may use the program to organize their libraries. Basic explanation: Provides teachers "cartoon" like educational/instructional videos intended for students and learning. The videos cover a wide span of subjects and levels. Positives: Vast amount of videos to choose from. Negatives: Free trial basis, but then a purchase of a subscription is needed.

The site takes you though and presents choices only. Possible Uses: background information, historical information, literary connections Basics: takes students through the witch trials as if they were there Positives: very engaging, real life choices for students, relates well to literature and history of Puritan America Negatives: when accessed multiple times, site slows down

Possible Uses: lesson review, practice games, student competitions Basics: database of educational games organized by subject and then content of game Positives: Engaging to students, many choices, games are involved, have to spell correctly, a lot of free content that does not involve log in Negatives: Some things you must log in and create and account to do

There is also an About Us link to find out more about the website. Possible Uses: Using the web to interest students in reading. Also, allows personalization of the stories so students can become part of the book. Basics: The site allows children to access books online and they can either read them on their own or have a narrator. The site also allows you to personalize the book. Positives: Being able to personalize the book allows the reader to really become part of the story. Negatives: The selection of books is very small and limited to younger grade levels.

Positives:free full-length videos for educator accounts, ease of use, no two videos are ever the same, ease of exporting, posting of videos is under teacher account Negatives: must apply for educator account which can take a few days

Click on that link and it answers commonly asked questions, video tutorials, and a blog. -Possible uses: Animate stories that are written by students. -Positives: Very interesting, and it allows students the opportunity to be creative and bring their stories to life. Do not have to download software. The best part is it is free.Very comprehensive and detailed site. People have joined this site from all over the world which creates great social networking opportunities -Negatives: Site is fun, but some of the characters are probably not appropriate. Blogs can be seen and may not have appropriate material.
