    "A physical server needs drivers to talk to it's hardware. A virtualized server, in essence, does the same thing. VMware presents new hardware to allow the virtual machine to talk to it's hypervisor. Think of the driver issue in a P2V migration like removing a video card and installing a new one. The drivers and hidden hardware are still there just in case you feel like popping the video card back in. A P2V will still have all of the old hardware in the virtual machine. Don't forget about services that physical servers used, namely HP server management services."

    To set a static ARP entry, the command used to be arp -s IP MAC, but on Server 2008 R2 and perhaps others back to Windows 7/Server 2008, this command may not work even if Run as Admin. However, the netsh commands in this Q&A provide alternate syntax that does work for the same purpose.

Sets the DatabaseCopyAutoActivationPolicy to Blocked on the server. Moves databases and cluster group off of the designated server.

    "By using (included) Eventtriggers.exe (in Server 2003), you can automatically start a batch file or VBS script which performs a custom action or captures useful information. You can also use a script to perform correction actions on the machine,  preventing the problem from reoccurring.  Sometimes you just need to be notified when certain events are created in the Event Viewer, so we can use a script to send an e-mail alert. For example, you can create a trigger that monitors the event logs for low disk space events and if such events occur, you can run a script that removes any temporary or unnecessary files to resolve the low disk space condition, and/or send an e-mail alert telling you about it."
