The Chicago Homer is a multilingual database that uses the search and display capabilities of electronic texts to make the distinctive features of Early Greek epic accessible to readers with and without Greek. There are lots of features missing, which I do have locally but am not ready to share quite yet. The idea here is that one can create a visual tool for a language that has not traditionally had such tools. The other idea is that this tool can be made using authentic materials (i.e. pictures of locations and cultural artifacts that directly relate to ancient Greece).

The Odyssey is an ancient Greek epic poem attributed to Homer. It centres on the Greek hero Odysseus and his long journey home after the fall of Troy. It takes Odysseus ten years to return from Troy to his home island of Ithaca. This map tale describes Odysseus's epic voyage and the many foes he meets upon the way. Scholars, both ancient and modern, are divided as to whether or not any of the places visited by Odysseus are real, even so the locations shown in this tale give a good sense of Odysseus's journey around the Peloponnese and the Ionian Islands.
