Ribbon Hero 2 - 18 views

"Yes, we turned Office into a game! If you're going to spend time immersed in the inner workings of Office, by golly it should be fun. In Ribbon Hero 2, the player will hop on board Clippy's stolen time machine and explore different time periods. With each time period, they get to explore a new game board with challenges they must complete to get to the next level. Each challenge takes the player into Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or OneNote to complete a task. Discover new Office features by actually using them, with a hint button to fall back on in case you get stuck. Race for a high score with colleagues, classmates and friends, or even put your score on your resume to show off your Office skills! "

Crap Detection 101 : Howard Rheingold : City Brights - 5 views

  •
" The answer to almost any question is available within seconds, courtesy of the invention that has altered how we discover knowledge - the search engine. Materializing answers from the air turns out to be the easy part - the part a machine can do. The real difficulty kicks in when you click down into your search results. At that point, it's up to you to sort the accurate bits from the misinfo, disinfo, spam, scams, urban legends, and hoaxes. "Crap detection," as Hemingway called it half a century ago, is more important than ever before, now that the automation of crapcasting has generated its own word: "spamming.""

Sugata Mitra: The child-driven education | Video on TED.com - 1 views

  • Education scientist Sugata Mitra tackles one of the greatest problems of education -- the best teachers and schools don't exist where they're needed most. In a series of real-life experiments from New Delhi to South Africa to Italy, he gave kids self-supervised access to the web and saw results that could revolutionize how we think about teaching.

FCC heralds a new era of 'super Wi-Fi' - CNN.com - 4 views

  • The souped-up system could result in wireless internet connections coming to rural areas, fewer "dead zones" in Wi-Fi networks and the ability to transfer large files easily between machines and computers in hospitals, the FCC says.
  •
This will be looked at in hindsight as a HUGE step in making the Internet available to more people in the US, I believe.

how do you use the Google search box to get just the right amount of information, analyze it for authenticity, and get it quickly? The new Google Search Lessons are aimed at helping teachers and students learn the inside scoop about skillful searching. Check out nine compelling and practical lessons for students to understand and be successful with the Google search process. The lessons are divided into three modules; Understanding Search Engines, Search Techniques and Strategies, and Search Features. Each topic contains three lessons that build on the skills taught in the previous lesson. Teachers can mix and match lessons depending on the skills they want to emphasize. More Schools Embrace the iPad as a Learning Tool - NYTimes.com - 1 views

  • teach Kafka in multimedia, history through “Jeopardy”-like games and math with step-by-step animation of complex problems.
    • anonymous

Finally! We couldn't do that before. And we all KNOW the higher order thinking that goges on in Jeopardy games. Ugh!
  • The iPads cost $750 apiece
    • anonymous

$750 EACH? They couldn't get a laptop for that? One that could do all that this ipad can do AND MORE??
  • Educators, for instance, are still divided over whether initiatives to give every student a laptop have made a difference academically.
    • anonymous

And the reason is that we buy toys and only allow our students to do what they always did before, yet we expect different results. Notice what they say these kids will use these ipads for. Revolutionary? Hardly. Sound education? Not even close.
  • ...8 more annotations...
  • “IPads are marvelous tools to engage kids, but then the novelty wears off and you get into hard-core issues of teaching and learning.”
    • anonymous

Exactly! When they see that they can't add apps or use it as a personal learning deice (locked down, it's still learning that's direted by the teacher and not by the student) the novelty will wear off VERY quickly.
  • $56,250 for the initial 75
    • anonymous

How many regular laptops could they have bought for that amount? Machines that can do all the ipad can do AND MORE!
  • 32-gigabyte, with case and stylus
    • anonymous

They need 32 gig? I'll be willing to be they don't fill HALF of that. NO music. NO photos. Just apps? This decision was made by someone who thought more is better. Oh, and.. stylus? HUH?
  • play math games, study world maps and read “Winnie the Pooh.”
    • anonymous

Did you hear me screaming on this one? OH BOY! They can read Winnie the Pooh! And finally study world maps. And THEN what?
  • “I think this could very well be the biggest thing to hit school technology since the overhead projector,
    • anonymous

And we know how much the overhead projector raises the level of Bloom's and fosters student-centered environments. It allows the TEACHERS to do things. Not the students.
  • The New York City public schools have ordered more than 2,000 iPads, for $1.3 million
    • anonymous

      AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHUUUUUGGGGHGHHHHHH!!!
  • More than 200 Chicago public schools applied for 23 district-financed iPad grants totaling $450,000. The Virginia Department of Education is overseeing a $150,000 iPad initiative

Economic recession? WHAT economic recession? Oh my. I hope that folks revisit these 'investments' in two years. There will be NO improvement and they will again blame the technology instead of the fact that it was the WRONG technology!
  • “If there isn’t an app that does something I need, there will be sooner or later,”
    • anonymous

Yes, but students won't be able to install it.

coffee maker hotel - 1 views

The office coffee system, which is also called OCS coffee, is becoming more and more necessary in most offices, no matter it is a small office with less than 10 staff, or even more necessary in big offices with more than 50 staff. A cup of aromatic coffee will bring a short rest for staff, and help them back to work full of energy, which will bring high efficiency to their work.
