Trial aims to compare the pharmacokinetics of omeprazole administered through the gastrostomy tube as a suspension in pediatric patients with cerebral palsy and mental retardation versus the pharmacokinetics of omeprazole administered as a multi-unit-pellet system (MUPS®).

Fragile X syndrome is the leading hereditary cause of developmental disabilities in all populations. The absence of a functional fragile X gene shuts off production of a special protein in the brain needed for normal cognitive development. Without this protein, children with the syndrome will never learn normally, despite hours of therapy and rehabilitation.
PubMed Abstract: OBJECTIVES: To thoroughly examine the literature dealing with life expectancy in children with cerebral palsy and mental retardation. This review paper comprehensively reviews the literature relating to survival in children with cerebral palsy and developmental disability. CONCLUSIONS: Literature review definitively shows that children with CP and DD have a diminished life expectancy, which can be assessed based on simple clinical examination findings.

This review focuses on neuromuscular causes of FIS. With the advent of molecular diagnosis, a few conditions can be diagnosed by DNA analysis of the peripheral lymphocytes (myotonic dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy); however, for the most part, electrodiagnostic studies and muscle biopsy remain as essential diagnostic tools for FIS.
