"While appreciating the need for stopping "Software Piracy", the attention of the Government should however be drawn to long term strategies to make Piracy un economical to both the "Pirate" and the "Consumer". The industry has seen a dramatic reduction of pirated copies of Windows since its prices were brought down. The continuation of piracy in other software is to a large extent a result of unreasonable pricing by manufactures. Prices are being determined by them based on their costs and profit requirements rather than the utility value of the software. For example, how many home users can justify the need to buy a Office 2000 paying say around Rs 20,000 which is the cost of the entire hardware system they have bought?. Most offices would find it uneconomical to buy software at such costs. "

"At present the Department houses all the notifications dating back to year 1962. The total number of gazette notifications now in the record room run to around 61,71,000 approximately. Gazette Notifications prior to 1962 are available in National Archives. The revenue earnings of the Government through sale of gazette notifications are around Rs.5 crores per annum. The e-Gazette is expected to bring in some more dividends and ensure easy accessibility to the purchaser without their undergoing the rigours of reaching out to the sale counters (which are only a few in the entire country) of the Department of Publication, Ministry of Urban Development reducing the time lag in availability and quality printing. Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Dr.C.P.Joshi today informed the Lok Sabha that Connectivity to Gram Panchayats through broadband network, is included as a component in the Bharat Nirman II Programme. As on September 2010, a total of 97,392 Village Panchayats have been broadband enabled. Under Bharat Nirman II Programme, the Government has envisaged to provide broadband connectivity to all Village Panchayats. Some States are using computers in functioning of Panchayats including for digitising records and files.

The Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008 was passed by both the Houses of Parliament on 23.12.08. The Act was notified after the assent of the Hon'ble President on 5.2.2009. The Depertment has prepared following draft rules under the IT(Amendment) Act., 2009 : 1. Section 52 - Salary, allowances and other terms and conditions of service of Chairperson and Members. 2. Section 54 - Procedure for investigation of misbehaviour or incapacity of Chairperson and Members. 3. Section 69 - Directions for Interception, Monitoring and Decryption of Information 4. Section 69A - Blocking for public access of any information generated, transmitted, received, stored or hosted in a computer resource 5. Section 69B - Monitoring and Collecting Traffic Data or information 6. Section 70B(1) - Appoint an agency of the Government to be called the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team 7. From Thimpu: We have our own Pirate Bay: the Indian city of Jaigoan, where Bhutanese films and music are rampantly pirated by Indian vendors. Local film and music producers would like to see similar action taking place against these pirates, but the problem is they are not operating on Bhutanese territory. Therefore, being outside the copyright law enforcement abilities of our government, our authorities have not taken any legal action, nor are there any plans to do so.

Handa (26) was arrested late on Saturday after the police traced the internet protocol address from which the profile was created to his residence at Four Bungalows in Andheri. Booked for breach of trust, forgery and under the Information Technology Act, 2000, he has been remanded in police custody. During interrogations, Handa admitted to the police that he had created the fake profile whom "he was interested in". Handa first met the victim two years ago when the latter had just started to make a career in astrology. The two became friends and for a while, they even shared an apartment in Andheri, the police said. However, the two subsequently fell out when the friend brushed aside Handa's "advances".
